Lucy entered her home with a heavy sigh. She had been on a mission that had lasted all day and Lucy was looking forward to a nap. She had just made it on the couch before she heard crying. Quickly, Lucy ran toward her daughter's room and was about to open the door before she heard
"Oh, baby what happened?" A deep masculine voice asked gently. Lucy peaked in from the crack in the door. There she saw Natsu holding their six year old daughter in his arms. Vera snuggled into her father's neck as she cried. Natsu couldn't stand seeing Vera cry and he tried his best to sooth her.
"Graham said he didn't want to play with me anymore!" Vera sobbed. Graham is Gray and Juvia's son and is, or at least was, Vera's best friend. Natsu frowned and had Vera face him.
"Now why would Graham say that?" Natsu asked trying to keep the malice out of his voice and remembering that the boy was just a child and therefore he couldn't kill him. Vera pouted her lip as Natsu brushed away her tears with his thumb.
"He said it was because I am a girl and that means I was not as strong as him." Vera explained. By now she had stopped crying and was just string at the floor mournfully.
"Now let me tell you something. First, Graham is an idiot and second girls are just as strong as boys sometimes even stronger. Look at your mommy; she is the strongest person I know. She has helped me overcome things that I never thought I could." Natsu explained with his signature grin. Lucy touched her chest; she felt so much warmth flood her being and she had to blink away the tears.
"Like when the doctor said mommy couldn't have any more babies?" Vera asked cautiously. Natsu stiffened. Lucy was pronounced barren soon after Vera was born, the fact she was even able to get pregnant the first time was a miracle. Doctors said that another pregnancy would be lethal, so Natsu took action and got a vasectomy so that Lucy would be safe. Natsu gave Vera a soft smile.
"Yeah, just like that. If your mommy got pregnant again she would undoubtedly kept the baby. But I was too weak to live without her. I need your mommy and her strength and you know what?" Natsu asked his now very curious daughter.
"What?" She asked her glass green eyes wide.
"I see so much of your mommy inside of you." He said as he pushed some of her rosey pink hair behind her ear. Vera hugged her father
"I love you, Daddy. I am going to be strong like mommy and beat up Graham now." Vera said before bursting from the room, out the door, and toward the guild hall. Lucy now looked at her husband who was staring straight back at her from the bed. He patted the spot next to him. Lucy shook her head no and strode over and sat on his lap. She put both her hands on his face and stared into his dark eyes.
"You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and that little girl has the best father she could ever hope for." Lucy explained tearfully. Natsu smiled up at her and kissed her passionately. He flipped her onto her back on the bed and stared down at his wife's beautiful face.
"I'm only the best because you're right by my side. I don't know what I would do without you, Luce. You and Vera are my strength." Natsu said before crashing his lips down on Lucy's.
