AN: Written for Drabble Challenge 115: Parents

Helen looked at the children with disdain. The way Nick made a fool of himself for their benefit was embarrassing.

She turned away, grimacing when her friend Lisa waddled up to her, carrying her heavy belly with silly pride.

Helen wasn't interested in talking to her about the joy of parenthood.

She remembered her mother's angry tears too well, blaming the kids when the marriage failed, and her father yelling that he wished he'd just shot his wad against the wall.

At her wedding Helen had decided she wouldn't end up like them and she had made sure of it.
