A pirate summer
Summer friendship
My summer was ruined!
My dad was shipping me off to a summer camp, don't get me wrong, I know it's a privilege to go to camp and all. But after all the exams and studying I was really hoping to relax for a bit, but my dad didn't want me sitting on the couch all summer.
So here I am sitting at the bus stop waiting for the bus to camp Horton. I was wearing my favorite cut off jean shorts and soccer jersey from my school team and my favorite sketchers sneakers. While I waited I braided my hair, purely for something to do, when I noticed a little girl, no older than ten, staring at me.
I smiled at her and waved to her.
She walked over to me and said "hi, I'm Mary."
"Hey Mary," I said "I'm Nicki."
"Are you a pirate?" she asked me.
I raised my eyebrows and looked at her "no. why do you ask?"
"You have a pirate thingy in your hair" she said.
I looked at my red and black hair wrap, a friend had did it for me earlier during the year. AN (a hair wrap is a bunch of colored string braided into a strand of hair. Google it.)
I smiled "well, maybe I could do one for you. Then you can be a pirate too."
"Wow, thank you" she said.
We both got on the bus together and all through the bus ride we talked and became great friends. Maybe this summer wasn't a total loss.
"We're here!" some kid in the front yelled.
We looked out our windows and saw the smiles of consolers. When we got off the bus we were taken to the bleachers and were given the rules of the camp.
The first activity we did was swimming in the lake, Mary and I were in the same group.
Mary looked up at me, scared "I'm not a very good swimmer."
I gave her a reassuring smile and said "I'll be right here and plus the counselors are here."
We went a few feet out in the water and everything was going great. Then I saw Mary hit a drop off, she sank down more and more, I cried out to the consolers but we were too far out.
I dove under myself to save her I couldn't believe how deep it was, I grabbed her and started to swim back to the surface. The problem was there was a current, I couldn't get back, and it was too strong. The last thing I remembered was the water filling my lungs.
