Contemplating Existence
Doctor 10/Rose
This takes place just after (during?) New Earth. All the standard stuff. don't own anything.
"She was just afraid of death" came from rose's voice as she stood leaning on the consul. Her eyes distant as she contemplated the woman she had watched die mere minutes before. The woman she had held such hatred for the last time they had met, she now felt almost ashamed.
She had wanted to be beautiful. To be seen as beautiful. How could Rose fault her for it? Now she understood what it meant to be human. Or maybe human was the wrong word. It was so much more than being human. Than being a person.
It was about living; a living thing. Something that felt, that breathed. Something that was able to spend so much time wasting away without knowing. Without seeing what they could do. How beautiful they were.
"We're all afraid of death" was the doctor's reply as he slowly flicked the switches. He had considered not even answering her. She was too deep in thought for his liking no doubt about what they had just witnessed. A woman who had been afraid to die like the rest of them. And he was afraid. Terrified even as he glanced at the young blonde girl quickly.
What was she thinking? he knew it was about living, yet what was her definition of it? Was this life he had dragged her into what she really wanted? The fear was slowly rising within him. How could he bring himself to ask her where she wanted to go next. What if she said she wanted to go home. To leave this new new doctor behind…to leave him.
"I can still feel her." She said. She didn't even bother to look over at the man, instead her shoes became the object she focused on. "It's like…I knew she was there. But I was stuck. I was powerless"
"that's to be expected. The impression shouldn't last more than a few hours" he was to scared to ask what she remembered. What she thought when it was Cassandra controlling her body.
"I remember everything" his silent question answered. Suddenly she looked at him with her grin. The one he hoped she saved only for him. It didn't meet her eyes like normal but the glint was still there. "was 'still got it' the only thing you could think of?"
He stared at her for a moment. Studying her, her smile still on her face. Obviously making fun of him but he couldn't help but smile back. That seemed to be her answer as she turned to lean onto the railing as she only looked back at them.
The fear was gone. He knew that now. His fear of her leaving him seemed to melt as she smiled.
"everything dies. Might as well live first" she said, leaning toward him excitement crossing her face. "where to next then?"
"where do you want to go?" he asked back. His smile lighting his face as he leaned closer to her. His hand ready to set the time.
"anywhere"
He looked at her contemplating his options before smiling, taking her hand in his, holding it a few minutes as he contemplated.
"anywhere it is"
