Refrain

BY SMYGO4EVA

"Have you come to die, Thief King?"

He saw her there in the water looking almost exactly as the day he met her. Same chestnut colored dress, same cerulean eyes, same white-blue hair.

And yes, he found it odd as he continued to tread into the water towards her that he saw the strange girl in the hour of his death. He stole many objects of his liking, but she was a treasure he could never steal or have.

But he reached out to touch her now, half expecting his hand to go right through her. His fingertips felt the cold skin of her cheek; he had expected her to be warm.

This is death, he reminded himself. There is only warmth in life.

With that, he grabbed on to a damp strand of her hair. She was immobile as he let her hair encircle his fingers. He looked into her stagnant eyes and let out his last breath.

"Take me away from this place."

The touch of her lips upon his froze him to the bone.

This was death.

The kiss did not deepen. She dragged him into the deeper depths of the water as it filled his lungs, filled him with a light nothingness.

This was death, but he figured that it was not such a horrible way to die.

(A/N: Can you believe it? It's been six years since I've been writing fics and I'm still writing to this day. I just want to say thank you all so much to those who have helped me along the way and have encouraged me every step of the way.)
