Dean jumped up on Santa's lap with a very serious look on his face. This was business after all.
"Ho Ho Ho," Santa smiled down at him, "What's your name, little boy?"
"My name's Dean. Dean Winchester." He informed Santa. "And I saw you last year."
Santa nodded his head. "That's very good Dean, I'm glad that you came to see me again."
"Yeah." Dean frowned. Shouldn't Santa remember his name? He'd ask his dad. "I have a problem, Santa."
"Oh," Santa look surprised, "What's that?"
"I asked you to bring me a puppy for Christmas. A brown lab with white ears and paws who liked to run around and play ball whose name was Runner."
"I'm very sorry, Dean." Santa apologized, "You know how high in demand dogs are, maybe you'll have better luck this year."
"I don't want a dog!" Dean objected in a panic, "No no no!"
"You don't like dogs any more?" Santa asked him, a little taken aback.
Dean made a face and looked at Santa, pointing at him accusingly. "You mess things up, Santa. I asked for a puppy and you brought me a brother." Dean fixed Santa with a look. "Little brothers do not run around and play catch."
"Well, when your little brother grows up, he can play catch with you all the time." Santa told him.
A look of comprehension dawned across Dean's face. "Are you sure? Because yesterday I threw a ball at Sammy and my dad put me in time out all morning. That's a long time, Santa!"
Santa chuckled. "Well, hold off on throwing balls at your brother until he can throw one back, okay Dean?"
Dean nodded his head, looking unconvinced. "I'll try."
"Now, aside from this, have you been a good boy this year?"
Dean chewed on his lip. "I tried." He sighed, "It's hard Santa. It's really hard."
Santa laughed. "Well, keep trying and you never know, maybe you'll get just what you want for Christmas."
Santa handed him a lollipop that was shaped like a candy cane.
"Marry Christmas!" Santa called after him as he ran back to his mom and dad.
Dean supposed he'd forgive Santa for bringing a brother instead of a puppy. Especially if his brother could play catch like Tommy did, then they could play against Tommy and Joey and beat them and be the better team. Yeah, he and Sammy would be a million times of a better team.
"Merry Christmas Santa" He called back, "I forgive you!"
John swooped Dean up into his arms with a chuckle. "Did Santa think you were a bad boy, Dean?"
Dean shook his head. "No, daddy. He told me not to throw balls at Sam until he can throw one back, and since I try so hard to be a good boy I might get what I want for Christmas."
"Santa's very wise." Mary agreed with a smile, pushing the stroller along. "And what do you want for Christmas this year baby?"
Dean grinned. "Another brother, mommy-or a puppy. Either one is okay."
Mary and John both laughed, and Dean just hoped that meant he'd get one…or both!
