AN: This was inspired by a dare I left on WanderingSoulof Time's story Dark Cloud ToD: Phoenixian Dreams!

She looked beautifully serene when she was fishing, Max thought to himself as he watched his girlfriend. She seemed so…relaxed when she was fishing. In all of the chaos rebuilding the world after Griffin's defeat, it was good to see someone relaxing.

Nobody knew how she had arrived in Sindain, stumbling lost out of the Rainbow Butterfly Wood with a handful of bruises and no memory of how she had arrived and her mystery was puzzled over by everyone.

"Are you going to stand there all day, or are you going to talk to her?" Donny hissed, shaking Max out of his reverie. Donny was right, he had something to do. He licked his lips.

"Hello Max," she said with a smile as she started reeling in her fishing line. "It's a nice day for fishing, don't you think?"

"Yeah, I guess it is," he said cheerfully, a sudden feeling of buoyancy floating in his chest. Her smile always had that effect on him and he wouldn't have it any other way.

"It reminds me of home, back in Norune with…" her words dried up as she momentarily lost herself in memories of a home long since lost to her. "In a way, I wish I had lost ALL of my memories and not just the ones that led me to this place. That way I wouldn't have anything to miss."

"Don't say that!" Max said sharply, causing her to sharply raise her eyes. "Memories are important. They give us a sense of our past, of who we are. Without them…what are we?" he licked his lips nervously before continuing. "The memories and people we know and have known help make us who we are and who we become and without them we are left searching for answers."

"I'm still searching for answers," she replied with a chuckle and Max looked at her with concern.

"I'm sure we'll find a way to get you home Paige," he said and Paige smiled at him and leaned her face closer.

"But Norune is my past," she said with a smile and she leaned forward and kissed him. "This is my future. Why would I want to go back?" and before Max could say any more, she kissed him once more.
