Note to readers: There is nothing much to say about this piece, except for the fact that it is a sad little Oneshot songfic (from I Will Remember You by Sarah McLachian) of love and loss between two unthinkable people. It's a bit pitiful, I know, but please read and review.

Disclaimer: As much as I may wish, I do not own the characters in this story.

I Will Remember You

I will remember you.

Severus Snape sat alone, wrapped within the warmth of his dark robes. Even despite the snow, her tombstone still looked as solemn and serene as it had months ago in the summer when it had been placed. Everything had ended since then; her life as well as his, just in those few months ago.

Slowly, Severus knelt beside the tall, marble grave, brushing the light fallen snow from her name engraved upon the bronze plaque.

Auriga A. Sinistra

2/26/1975 - 7/9/2006

Severus's heart ached, staring blankly at her name, her beautiful name, now engraved onto the pallid grey stone that so greatly resembled her deep eyes. Auriga, his darling Auriga lay beneath the surface to be hidden for the rest of eternity, cold and alone. She was nothing more but a name to the people of their world, a name that would be forgotten soon enough.

But how? How after all she had given, after all she had sacrificed could she be forsaken like this, by her own kind, by the people to whom she had given her life for during the Final Battle?

It should have been him. It should have been him to have been cursed by Voldemort, to have been struck by the terrible emerald light, to die there upon the raining, weathered steps of Hogwarts. What he would give to only have made it him instead...

Will you remember me?

The pain in Severus's chest intensified, as if slowly tearing apart into ruin. Auriga was gone, ripped from her promising future; pried from success, from happiness, from life. She had left him just hours before he had been able to ask of her hand in marriage, to start a new life of their very own. They had been cheated of their chance, their first and only opportunity to be happy for once throughout life. But the chance had been slain along with their dreams.

Don't let your life

pass you by...

Collapsing down onto the soft, frigid snow before Auriga's grave, Severus wept. The pain of the thought of her grew unbearable; he could not survive without Auriga. Gently, he laid down and closed his eyes as the lonesome world around him faded into white as pure as the snow surrounding him until black eyes met those of grey.

We're not born with memories...

We live for the memories.

Author's Note: Thank you for reading. I sort of meant to tie cardiac arrest and "heartbreak" into there somewhere, but never got around to it. I do strongly encourage anyone who took the time to read this to listen to the song it is based from; it is absolutely beautiful. Please know that all reviews are welcomed and appreciated!
