The Swan's Prince Prologue
Long ago, there lived a beautiful boy, who was sought after by men and women alike. He was gentle and kind, and had been taught since birth to love and cherish all life. But fate was not kind to this boy, for word spread rapidly around the kingdoms of his beauty and grace. Soon he had gained attention from the lover of a jealous and spiteful warlock.
Days passed, and the boy became increasingly fearful of the deadly intent of this warlock. His eyes became cold and vacant, and his long hair grew dull and unkempt. Those he loved began to be targeted and murdered horribly within the course of a few days, and soon enough he was the only one remaining. The villagers of his small homestead shunned him, and labeled him a blight upon the earth, and love-struck admirers no longer came by. Not even the warlock's lover.
But this punishment was not enough for the hateful man. He prepared a curse, that would grant himself the immortality that he had long sought for himself and his lover.
The boy would be his sacrifice...
The queen smiled down at her sleeping boy, silently glad for him falling asleep so easily at her story. Dark brown hair slipping over her shoulders, she lent down and graced his forehead with a loving kiss.
"Goodnight, my young prince...may the gods grant you pleasant dreams."
She tucked the heavy blanket around him further, smiling as he yawned softly. With a nod towards the older woman rocking beside the fire, she gave one last glance at her sleeping son, and retreated to her own chambers.
Soon, she pondered sadly, her little Heero wouldn't want her to read him stories or kiss him goodnight...The queen felt a deep pang of bittersweet tenderness. The life of the crown prince would be a difficult path for her only son...she prayed that the fates would be kind, and grant him strength and courage for the life ahead.
