Broken && [[Untouchable]]

Chapter 1: [[One Fine Day]]

"There's nothing even wrong with the patient!" House whined, throwing the patient's file onto Cuddy's desk.

"What makes you say that?" Cuddy asks, not looking up from the paperwork she is doing.

"She's a nut case! She's seven years old, she tried to kill herself! And, she has massive vaginal bleeding, because she was raped with a knife!" House sighed in exasperation. "Why do I get all the crazies? I'm a doctor! Not a psychologist!"

"House, no one else can get through to her. She won't talk. Just give this case a try. Please? No one can get through to her."

"And…that's my problem, because…?"

Cuddy glared at House, and then scribbled something on a notepad. She tore the piece of paper off, and held it out. House knew, right then, what it was. A new Vicodin prescription! House gladly extended his arm, to grab the prescription.

"Want this House? I know you do. And guess what? You can have it. All you have to do is: take the case." Cuddy said a smug look on her face.

"Manipulative bitch," House snarled, as he took the paper and walked out of Cuddy's office.

As House approached the hospital pharmacy, he threw the prescription on the pharmacy counter.

"Cuddy told me you'd be here." The pharmacist gave a smirk.

"Cut the crap, Chang! Just give me my damn Vicodin!" House snapped.

"I don't know." Chang replied, revealing a bottle of Vicodin in his left hand.

"I made a deal with Cuddy." House said, growing angrier by the second.

"Glad to hear." Chang smirked, and tossed House his Vicodin.

A nurse led House to the ICU. As they arrived to the girl's room, the nurse told House: "Her name's Jade. Good luck, trying to get her to interact with you." Then she walked away.

House ignored the nurse's comment, not sure whether it was an insult or a helpful gesture.

He walked into the room, and sat in a chair next to Jade's bed. Jade was sitting up in her bed, looking at the ceiling. Her hair was long, and raven black. Her skin was partially light. Her eye's the bluest shade of blue.

"So, I'm House. Gregory House?" the girl gave no response. "Strange thing, I don't live in a house. I live in an apartment."

Still, the girl gave no response. She continued her meaningless gaze at the ceiling.

"You have a mommy?"

House was beginning to be agitated.

"Look kid, did someone touch your 'no-no's' or not?"

Jade glanced at House. Once House looked into the child's eyes, he regretted his comment. Her eyes held no emotion. House was always able to read peoples' emotions. But he got nothing from this little girl. All he was able to pick up from her eyes was confusion.

"Sorry?" House stood up. "Listen, kid, if it were up to me…Well, I wouldn't even come to see you. Hell, I don't even want to see you. But I have to. You don't have to say a damn thing. All you have to do is sit there."

House walked out of Jade's room. Minutes after House had left, Jade looked over at the door.

Why was this person trying to help her? Was he stupid? She knew what reverse psychology is. Why did he want to help her though? Out of all people?

Why her?
