A/N It surprised me how under-loved Perdita is. To me, she is the most badass character in the series.

Mareth sat on a ledge on the very edge of the palace, his legs dangling into space. He came here a lot. It was a good place to think. And the view was amazing, even if the city was half-destroyed.

There was a rustle of fabric behind him. Mareth turned to see Perdita coming up behind him.

"Greetings, Perdita."

"Greetings." Perdita returned. She sat down next to Mareth, her legs swinging over the edge. "It's amazing here, isn't it?"

"Yes." Mareth acknowledged. "What brings you here?"

"I was coming here to look for you. Queen Luxa requests your presence."

Mareth sighed. These days, it seemed like he was always being called to Queen Luxa's side for something. He didn't really mind because he understood the importance of her being a successful queen, but he just wanted a moment of peace and quiet.

"I know it's not easy, Mareth. I don't like it either. But you know our duty." Perdia said calmly.

"No, I was not questioning our duty." Mareth quickly amended. "This is just the first break I've had in… Well, in longer than I care to remember."

Perdita laughed mirthlessly. "I know how you feel. It seems like there's always something that needs attention."

"Indeed."

Mareth didn't want to move. It was comfortable, sitting here with Perdita. The silence between them was comfortable.

He had known her since forever. They had grown up together, trained together, fought together, lost together. They were friends, for lack of a better term. And they always had each other's backs.

Perdita rested her head against Mareth's shoulder. He registered the change and quickly wrapped his arm around her shoulders. Usually this kind of behavior was discouraged between those who were not related or betrothed, but they were like siblings. And no one had ever tried to stop them.

After about five minutes, Perdita finally spoke. "We should probably go."

"You're right, of course. Queen Luxa will request our presence."

As they walked back to the council room, Mareth reflected that maybe only having a bit of quiet time wasn't that bad.

A/N This, as of now, has no semblance of plot.

This is my first fanfiction, so review?
