I'm not really sure what this is or where it came from or what it's doing. However, I wrote it so I thought I might as well put it on here. I've written fanfiction before, but never anything like this or put it up for people to read and review.
So, that being said, if you do so wish to review it, please be as nice as you can. Even if you think it sucks.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
They say he's the God of Mischief; master of all lies. He would agree with them, because it's the only truth he's ever known.
He sees it in the way they look at him. A little less trusting; a little less knowing, and all the more unsure. They tell him that they missed him; that they forgive him, and he believes them. He does. Because who else would? He tells them that he understands, and that he is better. But it's a lie, and for once he prays they don't believe him. Because if they do they'll stop telling him, and he'll be stuck with the 'little less's that their eyes tell him instead.
He never wanted to be seen as the jealous, rebellious, self-loathing, child that they see him as now. But he did long to be seen, and if that was what it took then so be it.
They tell him that this is his family; that this is his home, and he believes them. He does. Because he doesn't have anyone or anywhere else.
He tells them that he is aware, and that he is comfortable. But it's a lie, and he prays they don't believe him. Because if they do they'll stop telling him, and he'll be stuck with the blackness and his own conscience instead.
He hears it in the words they use. So carefully chosen; so tender spoken, as they never were before.
They tell him that they will be there for him; that they will listen to and help him should he need them to, and he believes them.
He does. Because he's tired of relying on only himself.
He tells them he comprehends, and that he is complacent.
But it's a lie, and he prays they don't believe him. Because if they do they'll stop offering, and he'll be stuck listening to himself instead.
He never wanted to be different or to stand out.
But he did long to be one of them, and they all want their moment in the sun.
So if acting out is what it takes then so be it.
They tell him that he is welcome; that he is worthy, and he believes them.
He does.
Because he can't imagine them meaning anything else.
He tells them that he is informed, and that he is content.
But it's a lie, and he prays they don't believe him.
Because if they do they'll stop saying it, and he'll be stuck not knowing what they mean.
He remembers it in the way they use to look at him;
the way they use to ignore him;
the way they use to talk to him.
He knows that the attention they now use isn't for him, but for their own safety around him.
They tell him that they love him;
that they are proud of him.
But it's a lie, and for once they pray he believes them.
Because if he doesn't he'll do something, and they all dread what that something will be.
He tells them that he knows,
and that he is fine,
and they believe him.
They do.
Because what else have any of them got to lose?
They say he's the God of Mischief;
master of all lies.
He would agree with them,
because it's the only truth he's ever deserved.
So, what did you think? All reviews are welcome, but ones more gently worded are requested.
