Possible, maybe, sort of SPOILERS for 3D? Nothing's ever explicitly stated, but it was most definitely written with 3D in mind and is set after the game.
I finally wrote something for this idea! Ha. Y'see, it bothers me that Riku and Axel technically fill the same spot in their respective trios, and yet I don't think I've found very many oneshots/drabbles/stories that connect them that way, which is funny since they act very similarly in how they try to protect their friends - or so I believe, anyway.
"I only ever did it to save them," Lea says suddenly.
Riku blinks. "What?"
"Dragging Xion back, fighting Roxas..." Lea refuses to look at Riku, but he seems desperate to spit the words out; Riku gets the feeling Lea planned this just to talk to him, hoping he'd understand.
Knowing he'd understand. They hurt the same people for the same reasons, after all.
"I was just trying to protect them, y'know?"
At that, Riku almost smiles. "Yeah, I know... What kind of question is that, anyway? A dumb one?"
"Ha, no. No dumb questions, got it memorized?"
"Only dumb people."
"...Touché."
