"Sweetie! I'm home!" the voice was sweet, like crushed up sugar, but her voice had a hint of worry, like something might go wrong.
"Mommy! You're home! How was work?" Audrey said. Her mom worked at a science lab, with her best friend's dad. Her best friend's name was Lila Cable. She was taller than Audrey, and had long wavy brown hair. And her eyes always had that sweet shimmer, that made her look harmless. She always looked so sweet, everyone would say. When she ran, her hair would flow behind her, unlike Audrey's which would get in a big knot.
"Great. Mr. Agon came up with an amazing weapon, that could win this war for us," Delveccistan is fighting against us, but they have amazing weapons and an amazing army, so the USA needed a new weapon that no one had ever heard of. Audrey's mom's lab got assigned to come up with a dangerous weapon, that was almost impossible to stop. "But it's extremely dangerous, if it got out of hand it could destroy the entire world! So me and Mr. Cable are trying to come up with something that could stop it if it got out of hand." Audrey's mom said, Audrey could hear the worry in her voice. "But it'll be fine. Don't worry abou it." her mom said, like she was trying to convince herself.
After a couple of months her mom's lab decided to ship the weapon off. But Audrey's mom and Mr. Cable still haven't found a way to stop the weapon. One night when her mom got home Audrey's mom said "Audrey my sweetie. You're only eight, so you won't understand this very much, but please try to understand, " Audrey nodded her head, "Mr. Cable,"
"You mean Lila's dad?"
"Yes, Lila's dad. So we haven't found a way to stop the weapon, so we made this". It was a small bottle, that had a blueish pinkish liquid. " This is a potion thing that will make you sleep till the weapon has gone away, and it'll make it so you don't get any older. You'll take it when the weapon spreads, then you will go in the closet in the basement, and you can't get out until you wake up. After you wake up, you can come out and find Lila, she'll be doing the same thing. Try not be scared, and remember to drink the entire bottle after you get in the closet. Trust me sweetie, everything will be alright."
"What about you? Where will you be?" Audrey said, wondering if her mom was going to leave her like her dad dad left her when she was five, just one day her dad said "I'm done with this. Goodbye." and just left, and he just never came back.
"Honey, Lila's dad and I will be trying to stop all of this. But you have to promise me you will do as I said. I'm trying to protect you."
"Ok mom.". Audrey felt like the dam that was holding back the river of tears was about to fall and break. Dreading the day this all had to happen, hoping it would never ever come.
"I love you Audrey."
After that day Audrey didn't get to see her mom a lot, she was always trying to find a way to stop the weapon. All her mom would say to her is "Remember, I love you Audrey.". But then one day her mom called home and said "Do you remember the plan, get the drink run down stairs, and don't come out. I love you my Audrey". And Audrey did, she ran faster than she ever had. Grabbed the drink, sprinted down the stairs, and hid in the closet, and cried.
The tears wouldn't stop, so she just drank the liquid. It had a taste that Audrey could never describe. It had the sweetness of a ripe apple, and the sourness of a lime, but still the calming flavor a of warm freshly baked apple pie. Then there was blackness, like an old TV waiting for someone to find the remote and turn it on, to light it up with people and color. And like a night sky that was completely clear. A sky waiting to have someone fly up there and draw on the stars, the moon, and add some color.
