Tony, Pepper and Rhodey, after a long day of stopping aliens from invading and destroying the earth, finally returned to the armory and put the armors in their proper spots. They were going to head back to Tony's place to relax for the rest of the night, as it had been a very long and eventful day. Before Tony could leave, Pepper grabbed his arm. Tony turned back to Pepper, telling Rhodey he could go on ahead without them.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" She asked.
"Sure, what's up?" Tony asked contently.
"Well, I was just curious…that day, way back when we were trying to find a way to stop Force and Shockwave, a-and we were in the lab and you said you could just kiss me…" Pepper said, pausing briefly. "What was stopping you?" She asked. Tony was silent in thought. He hadn't known back then, and he didn't really know why now. He never really knew, and he never really wanted to think about it. But when he looked into her eyes, he forgot about all of his worries. All he could focus on was her and how much he knew he cared about her. He felt stupid for not having known that sooner.
"I don't know, I-I guess I was just scared to admit I have feelings…I was scared that something would go wrong and I'd lose you as a friend…but lately I've been thinking I was stupid to think so…" Tony answered nervously. He honestly didn't see why he used to be so scared to admit he was in love with the girl; it really was quite stupid of him.
"Tony, I think we both know nothing bad will ever happen between us. Even if something does happen, I'll always be your friend. No matter what. Nothing will change that." Pepper said, taking his hand in hers.
"Yeah…I realize that now. Look, Pep, I-I'm sorry I didn't realize this sooner…the truth is all I really want is to be with you." Tony said. Pepper smiled widely at the sincerity of Tony's words.
"Aww, that's so sweet!" She said happily, kissing him quickly. "Have I mentioned I love you?"
Tony chuckled, leaving a smile on his face as he wrapped his arm around her waist and walked out together.
"No, but now that you do I love you more." Tony said happily.
"Aw, that's not possible because I love you most!" Pepper said, poking his nose playfully. Rhodey rolled his eyes as he was forced to listen to his friends' gushy romantic banter.
"Jeez, you two get a room!" He complained. Tony and Pepper chuckled at their friend's disgust as they continued on their way to Tony's house. He could tell it was the start of something amazing.
