Shiho always had a somewhat ordinary life. She was an exemplary student who lived with her older sister after her parents passed away. After graduating high school with exceptional grades, she decided to leave the comforts of her sister's haven and venture out on adventures of her own. Shiho's life was ordinary, but she still sought out the thrill of the unknown.
So far, university has been a normal place with abnormal people. She interacted with students and professors of all age groups and ethnicities. She was very keen on observing her surroundings and the people around her, for observation was the key to an accurate hypothesis.
The person who caught her eye the most was a boy with neon blue eyes and an unpredictable personality. They shared most of their classes and he lived in the apartment above hers. She looked out for him at any event or class, getting closer to her subject of study.
One strange detail is the way he fed off the spotlight, yet he didn't seem to have many friends. He usually sat beside her in lectures, at the far back of the class– where he could see everything and everyone in front of him. Neither paid much attention to class. She sat watching her peers and he spends most of his time sleeping. She would occasionally wake him up if the risk of him getting yelled at was high, and she would share her textbooks if he forgot them.
He also silently looked out for her, sharing his huge thermos of coffee with her at times or moving his Sherlock Holmes book between them so both of them can read the pages.
Neither knew the name of the other, but on unspoken agreement, they were a silent hand on each other's shoulders.
One quiet Saturday morning, Shiho was having tea when she heard a loud and repeated knock on her door. When she opened it, blue eyes and black hair greeted her with a mischievous smile.
"Hi," he said fidgeting.
"Hey, what brings you here?" she questioned.
"Well, long story short my parents are coming to visit and I need a place to hide."
"What?"
"Can we talk inside?"
"Sure," she opened the door widely to let him in and led him to a couch. "Want some tea?" Not waiting for an answer, she poured a second cup of tea and sat beside him on the couch.
"Thanks, I'm sorry for being sudden, but mom just texted me saying that she is on her way to visit, and mom could get pretty intense and dramatic and I would rather avoid her at all costs. I need you to hide me."
"No offense, but don't you have friends you can go to?"
"You are the only one. Can I stay till mom goes back home?"
"Yeah, but I don't even know your name."
"I'm Shinichi Kudo, a detective"
"Do you always say that when you meet someone?" She asked jokingly. "I'm Shiho Miyano, pleased to meet you."
