Death Note Shounen ai
Ulterior Motives (Come later)
It was important to get closer. Almost imperative. Attached to the world's most dangerous and relentless killer meant that an emotional connection was the only possible means of survival. L had factored this in when he had chained himself to Raito Yagami. And the most recent of events had of course been thought through as well. This would forge trust, make L more of a set character; therefore irremovable. It was genius. It was simple.
Raito knew L would find it harder to convict him now. What kind of emotionless, heartless… but this was an extra layer of security in the case, and a dearly needed one. Teenage awkwardness was non-existent when you spent every minute of every day with someone, and slept in the same bed, albeit opposite ends. Actually, that might be a little awkward, now. But obviously, his actions made complete sense, clear logic, really.
Both detective and suspect were separately happy with their motives, and decisions. It was easy to relax once you realised why you did something. Everything was normal. Or at least their normal.
Of course it was one thing to come up with an excuse afterwards, far easier to justify actions after they were done than to admit spur-of-the-moment actions on spur-of-the-moment thoughts.
It was easier to think of physical security.
But deep down, sitting side by side in their room, they both knew that none of those ideas, those motives, had come up till after. Before that, for a tiny, perfect moment, there had been no thought. Just warm, humid breath, a sweet sugar taste against Raito's lips, and the novelty of lacking it against L's. No self preservation and no hidden agenda. No second guessing and no need to think two moves ahead when for a moment, they knew everything they needed to know.
Raito glanced to the side, meeting L's wide black eyes. It was good to have a moment untainted by the world around.
Maybe more than one.
