A/N: I'm somewhat of a new fan of the X-Men series, and after reading some wonderful fan fictions written by my friend Jinxeh, I considered writing a story of my own. I tried to learn as much as I could about the characters and story line before I started this, so cut me some slack, please.

Disclaimer: I only own Claire Newcastle and any other characters I come up with. All the rest belong to Marvel comics, except for Jinx and Jenny Wagner, who belong to Jinxeh. If you're interested in their characters, then read her stories A Proposal of Lingerings, Over the Line and, Second Chances.

Prologue

As Charles Xaiver sat in his office, busy with the days's normal amount of paperwork and bills, he saw something out of the corner of his eye and turned to look. Outside the window, two girls were walking side by side under a cluster of trees. Both girls were around the same age, but very short for their age and both were wearing dark clothing from head to toe. One of the girls however, had bright pink hair and eyes to match, the other had normal brown colored hair and green eyes. The first was Jinx Wagner, the daughter of the mutant Kurt Wagner and twin sister to Jenny, another mutant student at the school. The other girl was Claire Newcastle.

Charles smiled softly to himself as he recollected the day that Claire came to stay with them. Now, many teenagers came to live at the school over the years, but Claire was a special case because unlike the rest of the teenagers living at there, she happened to be just your normal, every-day girl, instead of a mutant like the rest.

He remembered clearly how terrified she was, how she begged to be allowed to stay and how even though he knew he should refuse because she didn't belong, he realized that she needed to be here just as much as the mutants did. She was twelve years old when she first stumbled across the school and made her home there. Now she was seventeen and almost an adult. He remembered how trying those five years had been for her and the staff as well. She sometimes felt like she didn't belong and should leave, but she never followed through because as he mentioned earlier, she had made her home here.

She quickly made friends, as all the mutant teenagers were both friendly towards her and curious about the situation she went through that caused her to want to live here. Her first and perhaps closest friend had always been Jinx, because they had many things in common, such as the love for Tim Burton movies and rock bands.

The staff welcomed her as well, even Logan, who was not the most trusting towards most humans after his experiences with William Stryker and Senator Kelley. He realized, however, that she wouldn't be a threat to him and even though she and Jinx were behind the many pranks at the school, he learned to put up with the two of them and treat her the same as the other students.

After examining Claire's life at the school, you could say that it was pretty normal and carefree, but the life of a non-mutant girl living at a mutant filled school was far from safe and there were those that thought the school would be better off without her. Claire and the staff members knew this was a consequence they would all have to accept, but no one knew how far things would go or how deep the hatred between humans and mutants was.
