It was only Helen Holtz's second week at Hogwarts, and she was already having a tough time. Although her friends in Hufflepuff were being
extremely helpful, Helen felt very homesick. She longed for her family, whom she loved very much but they were stuck back in Toronto. She
especially missed her close friends in the school that she used to attend, located way up north in Canada.
Due to her burning curiosity, Helen decided to explore the Forbidden Forest. I won't get into that, because that is not the purpose of
this story. When Helen returned from her quest, she had with her an ostrich.
"Look at what I'm going to use to deliver my mail for me!" Helen chirped excitedly, holding her prized ostrich by its neck. Harry turned
around.
"But Helen, don't you know that ostriches can't fly?" Harry flatly pointed out. When will this foolish girl ever learn?
At this, Helen burst into tears. "Yes they can!" Helen sobbed, "Just watch me!" She turned to her ostrich and began to poke its wing with
her quill. "Fly! Fly little birdy! Fly!" Helen squeaked. Just then, the ostrich took off, with Helen still clutching its neck for dear
life. It turns out that this ostrich has little jet packs on the bottom of its feet.
It also so happens that the ostrich came in for a crash landing through the window of Severus Snape's office, turning over his bottle of
ink.
"Oops," Helen squeaked an even squeakier squeak than before. Snape just growled, unsure of what to say about this disruption. The ostrich
immediately started pecking at Snape's head. "I don't think my birdy likes you very much," Helen added, also noticing that the door was
open. Girl and ostrich made a run for it.
They clumsily hurried down the corridor, the big bird attracting all sorts of stares. "Scuse me, pardon me, sorry for the inconvenience,"
Helen announced, as she would pass by confused spectators. Suddenly, she crossed paths with a very grumpy Daphne Fudge (Yes, Cornelius
Fudge has a daughter in my story), who let out a very loud scream.
"Daddy!" Daphne continued to shout at the top of her lungs, "Get this hideous creature far away from me!" And at once, Cornelius Fudge
and Lucius Malfoy appeared in the doorway.
"Eep," went Helen. The ostrich winced.
"What on Earth is that thing?" Said Cornelius with disdain in his voice.
"It appears to be a large bird," answered Mr. Malfoy.
"MR. MALFOY!!!" Daphne yelled with sheer joy, embracing the nearly middle-aged man. Daphne was obsessed with Draco's father. Daphne
proceeded to chew on the lapel of Mr. Malfoy's expensive tan trenchcoat. All this ruckus caused Cedric Diggory to awaken from his nap.
"What on Earth is going on down here? A parade?" Cedric grumbled, making his way down the stairs. Helen let out yet another
squeak.
"Rjaaawwwkkk" went the ostrich. Daphne screamed again.
"What in bloody damnations?!" Cedric had taken notice of the ostrich.
"Oh…. This is….. this is…… uh…… um….." Helen was desperately trying to think of a name for this bird. "hm……. Daphne, quick, give me a
name."
Another shrilling scream came from Daphne's direction.
"Yes, this is AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!" Helen said (or shouted). The ostrich squawked in disapproval.
"How about Philbert," Cedric suggested. The ostrich nodded it's ostrich nod.
"But Philbert is such a boring name," Helen whined. The ostrich pecked her in the back of the head. "Fine, then Philbert it is."
And so Philbert took flight, with Helen still clutching his neck for dear life.
