The hot sunny day bore down on the two young teens. The girl sighed loudly and the boy held a bored expression on his clownish face. Then a groan escaped the girl's mouth. "C'mon Daisya! You can't stay mad at me forever! It's just a silly nickname, I didn't mean it!" The boy stayed silent and kept walking. The small redhead pouted and quickly caught up, walking close to her companion, nudging him with her shoulder every other step she took. "Would you cut it out already?! And stop touching me, Jesus Christ!"
He waited for another snarky come back from the other, but none came. Daisya started walking again, but as soon as he did a voice stopped him again. "Why're you such a jackass?" The small exorcist whipped around and stalked back over to the soon to be scientist, obviously fuming. "Why're you so annoying? Why're you still talking? Why're you such a crybaby? Why're you still here?!" …. Bad move. He probably shouldn't have said that.
Tears gathered at the corners of her eyes and she sniffed. She opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. His eyes widened and he felt like slapping himself. 'Way to go idiot, you made her cry. What's next, giving Kanda a black eye?' He thought. "Val, I didn-" "You did! Otherwise you wouldn't have said it right? That's what you told me a few days ago! That you didn't say anything you didn't mean!" She yelled, tears now streaming freely down her cheeks.
Now he felt horrible. A few days ago she had come to him, crying after waking up because of a nightmare. He'd said something and she didn't believe him. So he reassured her with, "Trust me. I don't say anything I don't mean." It had calmed her down at the time, but now… "N-no I-" "You what? You what Daisya? Tell me!" His face scrunched up in a scowl. "Well maybe if you would let me fucking talk I would!" He stepped closer to her and she glared. A sob left her lips and her collapse to her knees, hugging herself as if to shut him out. "Val…"
He sighed. He walked the rest of the way to her and sat down in front of her. "Hey. C'mon, your eyes are gonna get all red and puffy." He raised his hand to tuck the red fiery hair covering her face behind her ear and she flinched, thinking he was going to hit her. "Look, Val, I'm sorry. I seriously didn't mean what I said. You know that right?" No response. "Hey, at least say something." Silence. He frowned again, more out of frustration than anger this time.
He scooted over to her left side and leaned over, looking up at her tear stained face from under her colorful hair. "Hey~" He smiled, trying to get her to cheer up. That obviously didn't happen. He sat back up and sighed through his nose. "C'mon Val, you can't stay mad at me forever either." "Who said I couldn't?" He didn't get scared, he just hadn't expected her to sit up and glare at him so suddenly. He reached up and wiped off a tear from her soft skin and smiled at her.
No words said. Just the opening of his arms and her instant reaction. In a split second they had gone from her glaring at him to him cradling her in his arms while she wept into his chest. She sobbed and he shh'ed. When she had gotten over it she was still partially sitting in his lap with arms wrapped around his shoulders. She looked up to him and he glad he her his signature smile. "Ready to go?" She nodded and forced herself to stand on her feet again, then helping his to his after her.
"Race you to the next village!" He chimed and started running. She pouted and ran after him, hopelessly trying to catch up and muttering something about him not being fair. 'Big brother did it again' She thought as they laughed and ran together, no longer bored or angry with on another.
