A Road Less Traveled
Summary: Luna and Harry meet in the summer before his second year, through Ginny. They become fast friends, as she explains the Wizarding World to him in a way unlike any other.
OBLIGATORY DISCLAIMER: I don't own Harry Potter, as much as I may wish I did. I'm not even British, so... That excludes me from even being in the running as Mrs. J.K. Rowling.

"Mum, have you seen my jumper? I'm going to Luna's and…" Ginny noticed Harry and squeaked in surprise. She fled the room.
"Who's Luna?" Harry whispered to Ron.
"Nutty little kid, lives across the village. I think she's going to be a first year with Ginny," Ron replied, also in a whisper. Neither boy wanted to incite the wrath of the Weasley matriarch.
"You'll have to introduce us," Harry murmured.
Ron looked at him as though he had grown a second nose.
Ginny poked her head around the doorframe, still beet red; she must have heard . In a voice Harry barely caught, she said, "You can come with me… if you want…"
Harry nodded.
Ron was still staring, incredulously.

Thus found the three children walking down an old trail that looked like it was hardly used, but for when Ginny visited the Lovegoods, or vice-versa. Ron (talking nonstop about Quidditch) was only there because Harry was, and Ginny was still furiously red and staring at her feet; every so often, she would sneak a look at Harry, only to squeak and look down again. Harry was beginning to question his decision to tag along.
Finally, they came upon the strangest house Harry had ever seen. Considering he had already seen The Burrow, that was quite a feat, but this house was singularly strange.
One might not even call it a 'house' so much as a single tower and a garden shed. It was precisely the shape of a chess rook, made from dark grey stones that would not have looked out of place in an old fantasy book's castle. Tangled bushes were scattered about, and the windows were pointedly mismatched.
Harry decided at once that it was a wonderful sort of home.

AN: A rather short chapter, if I do say so myself. I hope to actually do this story, but if I don't, then I'll either take this off or label it as abandoned. I really, really don't want to do that, so... Here's to hoping I don't have that much homework, and that I do have a lot of inspiration. Wish me luck?
