Fade Away

It wasn't until he started thinking of Angela that this woman had been able to take him into the shadows to forget. Wendell had given Hodgins great advice when he'd told him to come meet some of his friends.

This young lady that didn't complain about his touch reached for him, cupped his face and placed a simple kiss on his mouth. He froze at the feeling of someone else on his lips.

It's not her. It's not her.

She wasn't Angela, and he had to understand that. He had to get over it and start looking for love somewhere else, but finding some warmth on a stranger wouldn't be too bad if she wouldn't be here, right now with him, whispering sweet words into his ear.

He shook her voice out of his head and stared at the beautiful woman that was giving herself to him. Her black curls were so soft, her smile so gorgeous, her eyes so bright. Just like Angela's. Her memory was hunting him; wherever he went, comparisons were inevitable. No one would be like Angela. Hodgins would stay alone. I want her to go away. I want her to stop.

He hated that he couldn't forget her, and that also for some reason, he hadn't really been able to forgive her. Breaking up with him like that, dealing with her ex-husband, going back to Roxie, taking a celibacy vote… All these things had told screamed that they weren't meant to be.

But I still love her.

Fate and the universe liked to play with his mind, like one of the many conspiracies he'd read about and supported as real facts. People said they looked great together; everyone but Brennan were uncomfortable around them when the break-up issue came up. Even a stupid on-line dating system said they were compatible. For what? For a few random encounters in Cleopatra's bed? He wanted so much more than that. He wanted a meaningful connection.

Angela didn't. At least not now. Maybe never.

The worst part was that deep down inside, he knew that no one else would be able to mark him the way she had. Aware of that truth, Hodgins breathed hard and kissed the lady's mouth for the second time tonight and hoped there were more touches to come.

You are a stranger… I don't care. Please, just make her face fade away.

The End.
