Jacob's Daisy

Once upon a time he'd given her a daisy

A flower with both innocence and allure

He'd laid it across her palms

And told it to keep it; it's hers

-

And she did, she kept it, by her side

Even when he was not

It was always close to her heart

A love that couldn't be fought

-

But one day the daisy wilted

The white turning to gray

And she felt tears creep into her eyes

As she wished for yesterday

-

But daisies do not come back

Nor do hearts that had been turned to stone.

But in the bouquet that is life

A wilted daisy is not alone.

-

She met another boy

With a smile sweet as honey

And she gave him a daisy

When he asked why, she said: 'You'll see.'
