Life After You
Prompt: Life After You- Daughtry
Aaron sat in his car. He had been driving to Emily's house, when his car broke down. He was going to tell her that he was sorry and he wanted to start over.
Ten miles from town and I just broke down.
Spitting out smoke on the side of the road.
I'm out here alone.
Just trying to get home to tell you I was wrong,
But you already know.
*Two days earlier*
"Aaron, how could you?" Emily shouted.
"Emily. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."
"How could you just criticize me in front of everyone?"
"I don't know. I had to. I had to make sure you understood what you did was wrong."
"In front of everyone?" Emily was frustrated. She couldn't believe him right now.
"Emily. I'm sorry. Can you please keep your voice down? I don't want the neighbors to hear every word."
"No! I won't keep my voice down. O don't care who hears! Do you understand just how embarrassed I was?"
"Emily. I-"
"No, Aaron. You can't just apologize and it will all be okay."
"I know. But-"
"No. Please leave. We can talk about this tomorrow."
Hotch walked towards the door. He turned around and said, "No. We won't talk about this later. I'm done. You and I aren't meant to be. You're just wasting my time." Hotch walked out of the house. Emily couldn't believe what she had just heard. She felt a tear roll down her cheek.
The last time we talked,
The night that I walked,
Burns like an iron in the back of my mind.
I must have been high to say you and I weren't meant to be
And just wasting my time.
Oh, why did I ever doubt you?
You know I would die here without you.
Hotch hadn't spoken to Emily since that night. She didn't come into work and avoided his calls. He knew he was wrong. He shouldn't have embarrassed her in front of everyone. He also knew he shouldn't have broken up with her, He must have been out of his mind to say all these things to her. He just wanted her to forgive him. He wanted everything ti go back to the better times.
You and I, right or wrong,
There's no other one after this time we spent alone.
It's hard to believe that on the inside I could be so blind.
Thinking about the better times.
Must have been out of my mind.
Hotch fixed his car and was heading over to Emily's. He arrived at her house and ran up to her door. He could only hope she would forgive him.
"Hotch? What are you doing here?" She asked, opening the door.
"I'm so sorry, Emily. I was completely wrong. We are meant to be. I don't know what I was thinking. Please forgive me."
"Hotch, I-"
"Emily, I came running back to tell you all that I'm after is a life full of laughter. Without you, God knows what I'd do. All that I'm after is a life full of laughter, as long as I'm nothing with you. And I'm thinking that all that still matters is love ever after. After the life we've been through. 'Cause I know there's no life after you. I love you, Emily. I still love you. I never stopped."
"Hotch, I don't know what to say."
"Just say you forgive me. Then, we can start all over."
"I forgive you, Aaron. I love you."
