An unexpected view
This was odd. Very, very odd. Standing in front of the door to her lab, her favourite drug in hand, he saw that all of the lights inside were off, the machines shut down for the night. It wasn't even 18:00 and she had already left work.
With growing worry gnawing at his gut, he turned around and ran towards the exit.
Almost at his car, he heard a familiar voice.
"Boss!"
He stopped dead in his tracks, and turned to face the agent behind him.
"Not now DiNozzo!"
"But boss…"
"Is somebody dead?"
"No, but…"
"Then I'm sure that whatever it is you can handle it."
And with that, he got into his car and left a stunned Tony behind.
Ten minutes later he arrived at her front door and started to knock against it.
No reaction followed. He knocked again and rang the doorbell.
He didn't hear the footsteps behind him, until he heard a soft chuckle.
" Gibbs , what are you doing with the poor door?"
He turned around to face her.
"Abs, I…"
He stopped talking. He had to take a deep breath instead, by the view that met his eyes.
"...was worried about you."
She just smiled.
"I assume Tony didn't give you the note I left for you?"
He smiled, remembering how he didn't let Tony finish his sentence.
"Well I guess he tried."
Both were still standing in front of her home.
"Okay, Abs, now tell me. "
He pointed at her.
"What happened to you?"
Her smile grew broader.
"I knew you would like it."
She took a few steps forward to close the distance between them.
"I wanted to try something else, just for you."
A smile spread over his face.
"Indeed that is something else."
"Wait till you see what's under it."
His voice hardly more than a whisper, he told her:
"I can hardly wait."
He followed his girl, who was wearing a white skirt, which was swirling around her ankles. A white, tight, high closed pullover was covering her torso.
He smiled when he realized that she wasn't wearing any of her usual accessories. The only thing that was the same was her pigtails. They were bouncing on each side of her head, as they always did.
His Abby, he thought, and stepped in, closing the front door with a smile.
