What Can I Say?
Prompt: What Can I Say- Carrie Underwood
Hotch and Emily had been dating for two months. Hotch was at Emily's house and they were watching a movie. They both thought their relationship wasn't working much anymore. Neither had ever said it aloud because they didn't know what the other would say.
After the movie had ended, they began to talk.
"Emily, I need to tell you something."
"What is it?"
"Well, I don't really think we are working. I mean I just don't feel the same as when this all began."
Emily had been thinking the same thing, but she still couldn't help but cry.
"I feel the same, Aaron. I should have said something sooner." She said as a tear rolled down her cheek.
"I'm sorry, Emily."
"Me too."
Hotch walked out of the front door and drove away. Emily looked out the window and watched him leave. She couldn;t stop the tears pouring down her face.
Piercing words.
Eyes are red.
Watch your tail lights in the rain.
Empty heart filled with regrets.
I know we were both to blame.
And I'm not sorry that it's over,
But for the way we let it end.
Emily knew that she wouldn't be able to work and see him everyday. She decided to resign from the team. She loved the job, but she just couldn't see him everyday and pretend nothing happened.

Five years later, Emily was working in the FBI in counter-terrorism. She regretted leaving the BAU. She still kept in touch with Garcia and JJ. She would go out and have girls' nights with them. She wanted to call Hotch, but she couldn't figure out what to say.
One day, Emily was walking out to her car and she saw Hotch near his car. He had parked right next to her. There was no way she could get to her car without getting his attention. She decided to just go and talk to him.
"Hotch?"
"Emily? Umm. Hi."
"Hi. It;s been a long time."
"I know. Five years. So how have you been?"
"Good. Umm... I just wanted to let you know that I wanted to call you. I just couldn't figure out what to say. I always dialed your number, but left out the last digit. I'm sorry. I just couldn't. It's been so long."
Please, believe me.
I picked up the phone a thousand times and tried to dial your number,
But it's been so long.
It's never easy.
It's like trying to spin the world the other way.
What can I say?
"Emily, it's okay. I tried to call you, too. I wish we never ended things the way we did. I'm sorry. I never wanted to make you cry. i just couldn't find the right words to say to you."
"I believe you, Aaron. Do you want to go get dinner and catch up?"
"Sure. I'd like that."
How did it come to this?
I think about you all the time.
It's no excuse,
But I wish I never made you cry.
I'm not sorry that it's over,
But for the way we let it end.
I couldn't find the words to say.
And you should know.
Please, believe me.
I picked up the phone a thousand times and tried to dial our number,
But it's been so long.
It's never easy.
It's like trying to spin the world the other way.
So, what can I say?
