And there he was, lying on the floor. Blood pooling under his bruised and broken body. I stood there, my knees shaking as I tried to hold back the overflowing tears in my eyes.
I just couldn't believe it. Natsu Dragneel, the fire dragon slayer who was known to be unbeatable whatever the odds, was now standing at Death's doorstep. I found myself running to him, faster than I had ever ran. I stumbled beside him and knelt, some blood splashing from the impact.
"N-Natsu!" I called, trying to catch my shaky breath. I held out his hand and clasped it desperately, hoping to get a response.
"Lu...cy..?" he called. I felt so relieved when I saw him open his eyes, but dread quickly replaced them when he coughed up blood.
"Natsu!" I breathed out. "Please, be okay..." I cried, more and more tears flowing down my face.
"I-it's okay..." he muttered. "I...I'm fine... At least... you're s-safe..." He formed his big, goofy grin at me. I cried even more when I felt his hand go limp and slipped from my hand.
The last he gave me was his grin... One last grin before leaving me forever...
"Natsu... I love you..."
A/N: A small one-shot I did way back when... I have no idea it was this short... Anyway, what do you think of it? :)
