Author's Notes: Okay, everyone. Please don't hate me for not writing any Twilight fanfiction… or continuing that other story. I'm having a bit of a writer's block for, oh, I don't know, 7 months? SORRY! This is a fanfiction I wrote for my 10th Grade English class. Hope you enjoy! P.S. If you haven't read Little Women or seen the movie, tread carefully! This is full of spoilers!
"Laurie," Jo cried, "honestly! You can't believe we'll actually get married, do you?"
Laurie looked at her, his eyes now filled with his long restrained passion.
"Jo," he began, "as you have always known that you shall become a writer, I have always known that I shall marry a March."
Jo's expression immediately became stoic.
"I shall not be married for my family!" she uttered loudly and coldly, as she made to move away.
Laurie's hands leapt to hold her in place.
"No, Jo. You don't understand."
"I think I get what you are saying quite well, Teddy."
"No," he gestured for her to sit down by the river, "allow me to explain."
She huffed a sigh and he tried to hide his smile. It was so typically Jo to deal with a marriage proposal like any other argument. Her stubborn mind was one of the many things that charmed him.
Once she was seated, Laurie kneeled on one knee.
"Laurie," she muttered quietly, looking away. She seemed saddened by the gesture.
He placed his hand on her mouth, effectively quieting her.
"Laurie," she repeated, this time playfully. She smiled at him.
How he lived for that smile! It was one that he wanted to see, for as long as they both shall live.
"Jo, I love you," he said, with feeling. "I fell in love with you the day I talked to you, when you told me that you couldn't thrash your aunt for calling you Josephine."
Jo let out a short laugh, not quite managing to instill a sense of gaiety and relaxation into it. He could see her eyes tearing up at his words.
"You remember?" she asked in a whisper.
He cupped her face tenderly. "Of course I do. And I also remember thinking how dull the party would have been without this exquisite person next to me."
Jo blushed, her features enhancing by that subtle pink.
"We danced and hid behind the curtain—"
Jo continued. "—and we laughed at Meg."
"Behind her back, of course—"
"And I told you my dreams—"
"And I told you mine."
They gazed at each other for a moment, not getting uncomfortable, not noticing the silence grow.
Finally, Laurie whispered softly to her, uneager to break that moment of serenity, "I know you better than anyone, Jo. And I'd love you more than anyone." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring.
Jo gasped softly.
"Miss Josephine March, will you do me the great honor of being my wife?" he said, simply and plainly.
"Yes," she managed to croak, not quite over the shock.
She said yes. Laurie's heart soared and joined the Heavens.
Please, please review! Tell me what you thought about it and if you think Jo might've reacted that way. Would love to hear your thoughts!
(Yeah, I know it's short)
