Warnings: None really.
Summary: Because it was never only about him.
When it came to his crew, Prince Zuko knew more about them than he was willing to admit. He knew that Lieutenant Jee had a daughter his age, the same way that he knew that Sergeant Aoi's wife was turning forty next summer. The hawks came in irregularly, but he always knew when they came. And just because he didn't want to know what they said, it didn't mean he wouldn't hear the whispers of someone's sister's wedding in the hallways of the dark ship.
As the ship pulled further away from the Fire Nation, the hawks were arriving infrequently and in flocks. The men were hardly any better when they arrived. They had wives, sisters, mothers and fathers. A fact that was never far from Zuko's mind as they drifted endlessly into the open sea.
A/N: Eh...not what I was expecting. Except for the last line. Anyway, review (if you want to)!
