Sort of songfic, more of an inspiration actually. It skips around a bit, but they're in order. Hope you like it. Enjoy! :) Mine- Taylor Swift reviews are welcome!
A lazy Saturday afternoon saw two content teenagers lying underneath a tree by the lake. No words passed between them for the countless hours spent there. None were needed.
Less than a year later, he left her under that same tree. She knew he did it out of love, trying to protect her. She couldn't help but hate him for it. She could protect herself. She didn't cry when things ended with Dean, or with Michael. She wanted to cry, she wanted to believe she hated him, she wanted to beg him to change his mind. She couldn't. She loved him, always had, always will.
The voice echoed on the silent grounds. "Harry Potter is dead. He was killed as he ran away, trying to save himself while you lay down your lives for him. We bring you his body as proof that your hero is gone." The rest of his words were drowned out as a rush of disbelief hit her. She was running before the thought reached her mind. His body was in Hagrid's arms, limp and lifeless. She heard McGonagall scream, then Ron, and Hermione. The last one she heard was the worst. She was screaming and crying his name. Praying this was a lie. Praying it was some sort of sick dream.
The last thing she remembered was a green light shooting past and her mother shoving her away. Then, Harry. He was there, he was alive.
Gryffindor tower had never looked so different, with so little change. Neville was standing guard at the base of the boy's dormitories, the sword being used almost as a crutch.
"Is he…." Ginny made an odd hand gesture upwards. He simply nodded and moved aside. After carefully taking each step on the staircase, she raised her hand and knocked gently.
"Come in." the voice she hadn't heard in almost a year answered.
She hesitated, but finally pushed the door open.
"Ginny?" The look on his face surprised her.
"I'm sorry I shouldn't be here, this was stupid." She backed out of the room closing the door behind her. Something in his eyes made her lose her nerve.
"Wait! Ginny!" she felt a hand wrap around her arm, "Ginny, what is it?" his voice was soft.
"Nothing, Harry, nothing."
"Tell me."
"The war is over," he nodded, "so everything is over."
"That's not why you came here, Gin. I know you better than that."
"You have no right to say that, a lot has changed since you saw me last, I've changed. Just leave me alone, Potter."
Braced myself for the goodbye, cause that's all I've ever known
Then, you took me by surprise
You said, "I'll never leave you alone."
You said, "I remember how we felt, sitting by the water.
And every time I look at you, it's like the first time.
I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter.
She is the best thing that's ever been mine."
