My life, if anything, is probably worse than yours is. Monsters are my paparazzi, but try to kill me. I am Haley Celestian, a twelve-year-old demigod. My parents are John Celestian and the Titan Goddess, Selene.
I sat in the corner of Mrs. Soto's Orphanage, the deep blue of the wall reflected my sadness after my father's death. Mrs. Soto told me that he was killed by his brother Julian over jealousy of my mother. Staring at the color only made me feel worse so I quickly turned away from it.
The other children sat at a small table, some with toys, others with crayons and coloring sheets. They labeled me with the name "Strangely Haley" which I had to get used to hearing; all except one girl, Hannah Smiths. She was really the only one there that cared for a ten-year-old, dyslexic ADHD girl.
Hannah walked over to me, her blue eyes meeting my silver ones. Her blonde hair, beautiful smile, and pink dress shone with sympathy. Hannah's voice softly asked, "Are you doing okay?" I stared at my black dress, and sighed, my snowy white hair falling over it, "Yes, but, I miss my dad." I sniffed; a tear ran down my cheek. "Don't feel alone, I know how you feel." She sat next to me, "My father died too, and my mother doesn't want me, I don't even know who she is." "Same here." I dug in every file of my brain, searching for a picture of her. Nothing. When I thought about her, all I saw was the moon shining in the dark, glittering stars dancing through the night. "Anyhow, want to play chess?" I nodded and got up.
Following Hannah to the nearest table, a shadowy figure gestured them over. "What is it?" Hannah curiously asked. The figure, whom was a boy a little over six, whispered, "I know a place where you could be safe." "Where?" I wondered out loud. "Follow me."
