James
I am breathing heavy as the combination of sweat and rain make my face wet. I run faster and faster as I catch up to Katie. I run right past her and go to cross the street. I was about to win the race when a car came whizzing by and in a flash Katie had pushed me out of the way but unfortunately she wasn't strong enough and her arm got ran over and she pulled her arm away in time to not get run over another time.
I wasn't so lucky.
I heard the snaps in my spine and legs as all four tires ran over my body, front and back tires. I scream out in agony and reach out to my girlfriend. "James!" Katie cries as she is being pushed away on a stretcher, screaming that she is fine. I scream and scream at the intense pain and I register that my legs feel weightless. I scream about 14 more times before somebody finally gets me on the stretcher.
Kendall, Carlos, and Logan had watched the scene unfold, not participating in our race. Carlos boarded my ambulance while Kendall boarded my beauty's. Carlos was just sitting here, pale and quiet, very unusual for the Latino.
Katie
No. No this was not happening. I was not just run over by a car and made her boyfriend lose everything he could hope for because of me. But he would be dead if I hadn't pushed him! I need to just stay seated right where I am, no matter how uncomfortable the chair next to my boyfriend's bed is.
I wish I didn't stay.
His face lit up when he saw me here, but then twisted in confusion. His next words, however, were what shattered my heart. "Katie, Baby, why can't I feel my legs?"
I couldn't stop the tears that fell, but luckily before I could speak, Shane and Brooke Diamond walked in and from what I could see, they just got the news. "James!" The youngest son of the Diamonds yelled, "Those doctors don't know what they were talking about! You can't be paralyzed!"
As soon as those words left Shane's mouth, James turned to me, a horrified expression and tears in his beautiful hazel eyes and dripping down his cut face.
"I'm paralyzed?!"
