For 'With Arms Outstretched'Author's Note:
This is my first One Tree Hill story. I wrote it last night right after watching the last episode. If any of the dialogue at the beginning is a little off I'm sorry, I didn't plan on writing this so I didn't exactly memorize it. Anyway, please review and tell me what you think."Ready to get lucky soldier?"
Brooke froze then staring at Peyton Sawyer the one girl who could steal Lucas Scott from her and her best friend.
"We missed you after the game," Brooke offered, Lucas' gray sweatshirt made her feel almost safe, protected from Peyton's accusing stare.
"Yeah, well, I guess I got turned around," Peyton shrugged, turning to leave. Brooke waited then, held her breath and watched Lucas. Maybe he would let Peyton leave, maybe he had already chosen her.
"Peyton!" Lucas called after her and Brooke felt her heart drop as Peyton stopped and turned to look at Lucas.
They stared at each other for what seemed liked hours and Brooke wanted to scream, to flip out and throw something at Peyton. Tell her that she couldn't just change her mind and decided that she wanted to be with Lucas after all.
Peyton couldn't do that because Brooke knew whom Lucas would choose. Sure, he was hesitating now but only because he didn't want to break her heart, hurt her in anyway, because he was a nice guy. A guy, who for once challenged Brooke, made her work for his attention. She was just a distraction though, just the girl the guys came to until someone better came along and for Lucas that was Peyton.
She should just tell them to go ahead. After all those two deserve each other. They're all broody and you have to perform back flips to make them smile. They can just go and be miserable, or happy, together.
When Lucas looked at her Brooke forgot all about that. Lucas was different, he made her want to be different, but she'd never tell him that. So Brooke kept quiet and waited to see what happened next, waited to hear the inevitable.
Nothing happened though, they just stood there in the silence staring at each other. Finally Peyton shook her head and sighed, "Forget it."
When Peyton was out the door Brooke didn't know what else to do. Peyton was her best friend and despite everything she couldn't let that go. "Sorry Luke," she shrugged, "Peyton! Wait up!"
Brooke would always be a distraction and she didn't want that anymore. Right now Lucas Scott couldn't give her what she wanted because he didn't know what he wanted himself. He was torn between two best friends. She didn't know what would happen when and if Lucas did choose. All she knows is she's tired of being a distraction.
