One day changes everything. Crossing the street, I guess, is not one of my better skills. One foot, okay good. Other foot, no car. Third step...slow motion. A leaf and a speeding end of life heading at me. Was I going to save myself? Or course not. Deer in headlights, that's me. But hands grabbed my arm and pulled me. Grasping my arm and in one yank it is all better. Life is sped back up again, and she was there. One look at my savior and I was alive once more. Of course, this was many years ago...
My now 24 year old daughter lifted up her head, with tears in her eyes. "That's lovely," was all she said. Her mother's ring glimmered on her finger.
We took one look down on the ground before us, and sitting there peacefully was a stone. One last breath of life. I placed both my hands on it, remembering. "Oh, Ellie." The flowers bloomed around the beautifully carved rock, that shone in the sunset. My daughter lifted out her mum's favorite book from her bag and held it to her chest, just as she had at her mum's funeral all those years ago. It wasn't the car that killed her, oh no, it was illness. But I'll never forget that day when time slowed down, and I met her.
