Two blood elves entered the building. One of them was male, and one female. Only an hour earlier they had been on a goblin Zeppelin, and now they were in tattered clothing and they had nowhere to go. You could tell that they were in love. You could feel it in the air around them.
The building was of elven design, one of many nearby. It was the middle of the night, and dark clouds surrounded the moon. The lights inside the building had been extinguished, as had those of the buildings nearby.
The male went ahead to a flight of stairs. He looked up them, and seeing nothing, turned back to the female. She was almost shaking with fear.
"There's nothing to be afraid of," he said to her, hugging her close. "We can rest here for the night, and in the morning we'll find somewhere to stay properly."
She said nothing, but she nodded her understanding. He smiled, but it was a sad smile, a wan smile. "Come on," he said.
They walked up the stairs, he leading her by the hand. The top of the stairs had a passage going right, eventually doubling back as it turned into a balcony with the moon shining in.
He smiled for real this time, and turned to look at her. "See? We'll be fine."
They heard a scream, and an uttering of "Blood elves!" They both looked to the staircase to see a high elf woman running down the stairs.
"No, wait! We won't hurt you…" he said, and sighed. He turned to look at her again.
It seemed like only a few moments before high elf guards came rushing up the stairs. One of them kicked the blood elf woman to the ground, another pinned the man to the floor and pointed his sword menacingly at the blood elf's throat. One of the guards wearing the captain's insignia stepped forward.
"You have trespassed upon the sacred land of Quel'Thalas, high elf territory," the captain of the guard said. The blood elf woman began crying a stream of tears down her face. The man crawled over towards her.
"The punishment for such a trespass is death," the captain continued. The blood elf man clutched the hand of his beloved.
"You can't do this to us!" the woman said. "Please, we'll never do it again!"
"We were just looking for a place to stay for the night, is that really such a bad thing?" the man asked, trying to hide his fear. He stood on his knees. "Surely we can come to some sort of an agreement–"
"Silence, blood elf!" the captain said. "It is the law of the land."
One of the guards drew a bow and loaded an arrow to it. He looked between the two blood elves, studying them. Finally he pointed the bow at the woman and pulled the bowstring taut.
"No!"
The other blood elf jumped to push his lover out of the way.
The arrow still hit her square in the chest. Her eyes closed and almost seemed to sigh. But it was a sigh of death, and her partner stared blankly at her. A tear dripped down his face.
The guard began to reload his bow, but the captain stopped him.
"Sir, shouldn't we get this over with–"
"What people don't know won't hurt them. The pain that he feels here tonight will teach him never to set foot within Quel'Thalas ever again."
"Sir."
The guards all left, leaving the blood elf to cry over his love, still clutching her hand.
It began to rain outside; and the moon was totally gone.
