Just a random idea that I had, couldn't resist. Not sure if I should add more chapters or anything, still haven't decided. Anyway, enjoy.

Jack's Joinal

September 19, 1900

So here 'tis. Dis joinal.

I ain't one fer joinals but I guess somebody's gotta write dis stuff down. I want my story known. Somethin' from me newsie days, wantin' people ter know what happened. Get my side o' it. Cuz if ya listen to Davey-boy or Race or some'in, they'll make me out ter be some kinda scab again. I'm not. I ain't sellin' out fer nuttin' no mores.

I'm writin' dis in da light o' a candle. It's dark hea' in dis cell, ya know.

Yep, I'm in jail again. Toins out dat someone framed me fer stealin' a horse and dat's like some big offense out hea'. I didn't do it, but bein' a new kid out hea' makes me a prime target. Oh, lookie, it's a lil guy an' he don't know nuttin' bout nuttin' and so we oughter take advantage of da lil' guy. I grew up in dat situation so I'm used ter it.

So here's how it went.

I couldn't take it no mores, I had ta get outta da city. The walls were closin' in, ya know what I mean? I needed air, space. Freedom. Me an' Davey-boy had words when partin'. I let my fists do the tawkin'. He didn't understand. None o' dem did. Sarah still sends me letters but it ain't da same, ya know? It's different now. I ain't no newsie no more. No more union, no more newsies. I left on da train to Santa Fe an' I'm hea' now. Took a job rustlin' cattle an' all dat. It's fun.

I'm a Cowboy like I was meant to be. I'm free.

It's betta this way.

Right?

'Cept when yer in jail.

Anyway I'm just wastin' my time writin' dis junk. Like anyone's gonna read it. Old man Denton had a thing goin' with that joinalism stuff. Mebbe there's a point in makin' people see the truth. Like before.

Well…anyway. Gotta fig'ure out how ter get outta hea. Dis old coot in da cell next ter me is diggin' his way out widda spoon.

Night.
