Cloud had to admit that the idea excited him a little. The thought that they'd be caught and their secret would be exposed was both frightening and thrilling but he still allowed Aeris to guide him through the forest.
"So, where are we going?" he asked, squeezing her hand gently. She smiled at him.
"Just wait and see," she replied sneakily. He complied although he was dying to know what was going on and why they were sneaking off from their hotel when the sun was only just rising. However, he wasn't about to complain since he rarely got the chance to be alone with the flower girl so he reckoned he may as well enjoy it while they could.
Aeris pushed back a large branch, throwing Cloud one last smile before stepping out of the woodland, dragging him out after her. Immediately, his eyes widened and the grip around her fingers slackened a little out of shock as he took in the scene.
Ahead of him there was a large blue blanket laid out across the grass with two plates, two glasses and a few plastic containers sitting on top, their lids preventing anything from getting inside and ruining the contents.
"You did all this?" he asked, turning to her in surprise. She smiled and shrugged as if to say it was nothing. Cloud's eyes widened even further but didn't have the chance to say anything more as she began dragging him across to her picnic. She sat down, patting the material beside her in order to coax him into sitting with her. He took the hint and seated himself next to her.
"Why?" he asked, watching as she opened one of the containers. She turned to him with a puzzled expression.
"It's Valentine's Day silly," she replied. "I wanted to do something special,"
Cloud lay down on the blanket with a cute, embarrassed smile on his face. He had remembered that it was Valentine's Day but he hadn't really connected the picnic with the special occasion. Aeris rolled her eyes at him, an amused smile covering her lips. The blonde shrugged and gently moved his head to lie in the Cetra's lap, a habit he had been doing a lot recently in their moments alone. The intimate act made him feel secure and wanted. It may also have had something to do with the fact that he adored the way her hands would run through his hair lovingly.
He half opened his eyes as he felt something press against his lips but they fluttered closed again as he realised that Aeris was kissing him. His hand lifted to gently cup her face, never wanting the contact to end.
"I love you," she whispered, her lips still brushing against his. He smiled and sat up, leaning back on his hands.
"I love you too," he said before pressing their lips together again.
