Unslaved
Mark Newark lived a happy life; at the very least it was happy from his perspective. It's not that he himself wasn't happy, quite the opposite, but he had the feeling something was wrong with it all. The world around him was the same as it had always been, but it felt as if it was missing something. He snapped back to reality his mind returned to the immediate situation. He was driving, steadily, with a handsome lady sitting beside him in the passenger seat. "Her name is Maria" he thought to himself, he wasn't quite sure why he had to remind himself of something that should be so obvious. She was smiling; perhaps it was a special occasion. "It's your third anniversary, dummy" he thought to himself, smiling it off he just yawned and assumed he was probably feeling tired. Maria continued to smile at him with a radiant glow, Marks heart melted. "She's two weeks late" he thought to himself, or at least he thought he thought to himself, he wasn't quite sure where the voice was coming from anymore, it seemed to be far ahead of his own subconscious. 'You're pregnant!?' Mark exclaimed. Maria looked up at him in shock, 'how… how did you know? I was going to tell you after dinner.' Mark's head was spinning, on any other day he would be ecstatic about the news, but today… 'Mark look out!' she screamed as Mark brought the car to a sudden halt.
The crash disorientated him, Mark could barely see the other car which had crashed into him, the only thing he could clearly see was the sight of Maria's mangled body in the passenger sea. Mark froze dead still in his place, he didn't want to believe what he was seeing, he couldn't. He began to feel sick with grief. Then, in the blink of an eye, she was gone, not a drop of blood left behind. Mark was on the verge of collapsing when everything else that was visible appeared to vanish, first the seats, then the roof, than the very sky above him, everything went blank. All he could hear now was the sound of dying machinery somewhere far off in the background, followed by a female voice. 'Did I make the right choice?' the voice asked. Mark lifted up his helmet to see a large barely clothed muscular man huddled with a young woman standing on platform just a short distance away from him and various other individuals. The two of them were standing across from what looked like an ancient corpse, oozing black liquids and connected to some seriously high-tech machinery. Mark had no idea what was going on, but he had a feeling he would enjoy his world a lot less.
