I've watched them meet
Really meet
Like the sort of meet that happens
Between two people
That were meant to be
(Even if they don't know)
I've watched them fight
Fight for days on end
Seemingly endless shouting
Then sulking
Then frowning
Then pouting
("I'm not pouting")
I've watched them make up
With apologetic cups of tea
Timid shoulder touches
Small smiles over dinner
(That is, when one bothered to eat)
I've watched them fall in love
All sorts of love
The kind you feel for a friend
And then for more than a friend
The sort of love
Where you realize the other
Will be your end
(And you're okay with that)
I've watched him fall apart
Spending nights alone
With silent tears
And two cups of tea
(One always goes cold)
I've watched them reunite
With a punch in the face
A quick hug
And a not-so-quick kiss
(It lasted a while)
I'm watching them meet again
Really meeting
Though one does still sulk
There are even more apology teas
But they're falling in love again
With no more nights alone
(The second bedroom is empty again)
