Sharpay Evans knew exactly why she was sitting in the rain next to a sulking Troy Bolton waiting for her cousin to pick her up. It was all Troy's fault. He'd distracted her in math class with his enticing blue eyes and charming smile, earning them a detention. She hated to admit it, but she had a huge crush on the basketball playmaker. Not that she was the only one. She was in competition with pretty much every other girl in her year.
Troy Bolton knew who to blame for the fact that he was sitting by a grumpy Sharpay Evans waiting for the next taxi in the middle of a storm. It was the fault of Sharpay herself. Her beautiful face and long, glossy blonde hair had taken his mind off math so Mr Corelli had giving him a half-hour after school with her. Troy, along with almost every other male sophomore at East High, was crush on Sharpay. Big time.
Sharpay couldn't help it, she just had to sneak a glance at Troy as she sat through the rain. His cute pout made her giggle. Troy turned to face her and she looked away.
"What?" he asked, still pouting.
"Nothing!" she snapped. She hated being unkind to him, but she didn't want him to know that she liked him. "Aren't I allowed to look at you now!"
Troy shook his head in dismay and turned back to the road, hoping to spot at least one yellow taxi. Sharpay began to talk to her self and he looked at her again.
"Oh, my hair's going curly! This straight perm cost $75!" she muttered to herself, looking in her pocket mirror. He hair had begun to form loose curls. Troy beamed at Sharpay.
"What?" she asked.
"I think your curls look pretty," As soon as Troy had spoken, he wished he hadn't. He didn't want to embarrass himself. But Sharpay's lips formed a small smile and she blushed scarlet-red.
"Thank you," she said quietly, before turning to the road looking for her cousin, Charisa from Sao Paolo. She shouldn't have been hard to spot since she was driving Sharpay's pink convertible. After a while she began to shiver.
"You cold?" Troy asked.
"I'm fine," she said firmly, but raindrops fell off of her nose as she gently shook. Much to Sharpay's surprise, Troy took her hand. He looked her in the eye.
"You're freezing!" he took off his coat and put it around Sharpay's shoulders then took her hand again. Troy's hands were soft and warm and they were much bigger than Sharpay's small, cold ones. He stroked her hand gently with his thumb.
"Won't you be cold too?" she asked looking at his short-sleeved tee. She could she his six-pack underneath his shirt. Looks like all his basketball training had paid off.
"No," said Troy, but he was already shivering, "Okay, I guess," he said and put the coat around both of them. He put his free arm around Sharpay's shoulders. She was looking at him with a vacant expression on her face.
"What are you thinking about," he asked her.
"You," she said absent-mindedly. She gasped when she realised what she'd said. "I mean …" she started, but Troy spoke up.
"I'm thinking about you, too,"
The two kids blushed.
"I was thinking of you in math class," the two said in unison after a period of silence. They both laughed.
"Your pretty smile," said Troy putting his hand on Sharpay's face.
"Your enthralling eyes," Sharpay moved closer to Troy and put her hand on his chest.
"I really like you," said Troy looking into Sharpay's eyes.
"I like you, too," said Sharpay looking back at him. And Charisa and several taxis managed to drive past without them noticing as the two shared a passionate kiss in the rain.
