The Awakening
"Wake up Katniss! Wake up!" I hear from a far away place as I lay there dreaming. It had been 25 years since the events that led to the freedom of our people. I awake on my bed at home but could tell there was something wrong. There was a fog in the room, and I could smell the dew of morning. It was strange, the brightness of my life since the end of the Quarter Quell, was starting to fade. I thought it was attributed to my new life, out from under the control of the Capitol, but I knew now that I was wrong.
I ran through the house, nearly tumbling over the furniture before I reached them. Peeta smiled at me, but his face revealed his knowledge of what was to come. My children were not so appeasing and begged for me to stay before their brightness, their house, and my life faded away. The shiny world of the Katniss Mellark was gone.
"I'm here Katniss. We're safe." it was Peeta, but not the Peeta I had spent every day with for the majority of my life. He was a young Peeta. "I'm going to get you out of here. Turns out we have a lot of friends in the Capitol." I lift my head and take in the grimy reality and only miss the shine of the world I had left.
I realize that Peeta is not alone and defensively raise my hands up and stand in a defensive stance towards the shadowy figure that stands over us. I blink my eyes until I can see without a doubt that it is Plutarch Heavensbee. I feel safe, but since his stance seems defensive also, I fight the urge to run and hug him.
"It must have worked." He says excitedly with the full accent of the Capitol. "Do you know me Katniss?"
I start to panic as everything starts coming together. I fight back this reality, try to get back to my own but I know there is no escaping it. I stand up and walk around the house that is so very similar to the ones I had remembered running through on our mission to kill Snow. I find the restroom and turn on the light, looking at myself in the mirror and they don't need to explain.
I'm staring at my face, my young 17 year old face, and I say a silent goodbye to my dream world. A world without Snow, a world without the Capitol, and a world where they couldn't hurt the ones I love. The words come out and I realize that the dream world was the only reason I knew them. "I've been highjacked."
"It has worked indeed." Plutarch says from behind me, but my whimpering quiets all of his excitement.
Haven't written a fanfic in a long time. Figure this one might be fun. Enough Reviews and I'll write more. I'm only going to do small 500 word segments like my Bad guy Edward Fic, so it should be nice fun reads.
