Dipper walked away from McGucket, the old man mumbling about the supposed end of the world. For once though, Dipper shrugged it off, finding a little bit of peace in the atmosphere of the party after all the stuff that had happened around Gravity Falls since... well, since he and Mabel had arrived.
The Northwest Mansion was alive with excitement, townspeople dancing, running, eating and talking absolutely everywhere. Tambry was walking away from a closed door, while Robbie and the other teenagers were vandalising the walls of the mansion. Grenda and her new Austrian boyfriend were talking and holding hands by the table that used to have a bowl of punch on it, and Mabel and Candy were running about flirting with different guys that had stayed after the townsfolk arrived.
Dipper searched the crowd of people, finding the person he was looking for, Pacifica, telling a butler to clean up the mess the two of them had made on her parent's favorite carpet. He swore he even heard a 'please' come out of her mouth.
"Hey!" He called out, walking up to her, "Sorry, McGucket had something to tell me. It's okay now though."
"It's fine," she replied, staring down or avoiding eye contact like she had something on her mind.
"Hey, uh, is there something you wanted to say..?" He asked, noticing her uneasy behavior.
"No! It's just... you, you go on those monster hunts a lot right? With your sister?" She looked up at him expectantly.
"Oh man, you have no idea!" Just like that, a switch flipped and Dipper started to babble, "gnomes, secret societies, dream demons, did you know that mermaids actually exist? Well, I guess not mermaids, more mermen than mermaids-"
"Dipper."
"-then there was the shapeshifter, and apparently Mabel's run into a few cute vampires before. Oh, and also Gideon, that kid's a monster, he ever comes back into town, stay away from him, trust me. There's even dinosaurs below Gravity Falls, who could've guessed that? Oh, and-"
"Dipper!"
Dipper was shocked out of his rant, turning back to look at Pacifica. "Oh, uh, sorry, I got caught up in my thoughts again, you were saying?"
"I- well I was wondering, if I could, go with you to hunt monsters sometimes? You and Mabel, I mean. It's not like I can do anything good around here, and I get the feeling I'll need some time away from my parents very soon."
Dipper grinned, "Yeah, that'd be great! We could use more people on the mystery-hunting team, with Soos and Wendy both having jobs."
It was at this moment that Dipper realized that he had been leaning in rather close to Pacifica, and, with a blush, took a few steps back.
"I guess I'll go talk to Mabel about it then, huh?" She said, and Dipper noticed she was also a shade redder than usual.
She walked away, and Dipper sat down in one of the fancy chairs they were standing by with a small smile.
"I guess she's not the worst after all."
