Hit-Wizards and Witches
Who are Hit-Wizards and Witches?
A subdivision of the Magical Law Enforcement Squad, Hit-Wizards and Witches form Hit-Squads that perform all tasks above the abilities of regular Law Enforcement officers. When not assembled in our Squads, we have normal duties as employees of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
Can you give some examples of what you do?
Hit-Squads play key roles in hostage rescues and criminal arrests. We assist Aurors and provide extra manpower where necessary, and also act as extra security at important events.
What are the requirements?
A minimum of passing grades in five O.W.L.s are required, including Defence Against the Dark Arts. All applicants must be of age (seventeen) by the time they sign up, and not of a nervous disposition. Good physical condition is also a plus.
What does training consist of?
All applicants will be trained in defensive charms and counter-curses. Equally important is the ability to capture criminals without alerting Muggles. Members of the Hit-Squads also train beyond magic; physical force is a necessity for this kind of work.
Is it true that this is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world?
Probably. Remember, we regularly pursue the most dangerous criminals out there. Many noble officers have lost their lives.
Why should I join?
Due to the dangerous nature of this profession, the pay is rewardingly high. Novice Hit-Wizards and Witches receive a salary of seven hundred Galleons a month, are provided with a broomstick, and have a bed reserved at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. With such a fat payroll, most members of the Hit-Squads retire earlier than other Ministry of Magic employees or transition to a safer division in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
How are Hit-Wizards different from Aurors?
Aurors specialize in intelligence services and stealth, while Hit-Squads prefer a more forthright approach. In some respects, we can be compared to Muggle S.W.A.T. teams while Aurors are more like the British MI5 or American FBI.
