Lifeline

I run between the trees, taking down more of those hideous orc creatures as I go. I ignore Gimli as he bellows for me to slow down, I can't do that. I jump over a huge rock and stab my dagger into the head of an orc beneath me. I slow as I catch the sound of Aragorn's voice. I walk into the clearing and my heart jerks, he's with that other human.....Boromir. What does Boromir have that I don't? Muscles, an attitude, what? Why does Aragorn prefer him to me? Even now he's with him, knelt down in front of him.

Damn!! Boromir....he's been shot, I can see three long arrows sticking out of him. He.....he's dying. I feel so guilty for what I was feeling, I was mouthing him off when he has barely seconds left to live. I don't look up as Gimli steps up beside me.

"Demon's of Sauron", I hear Gimli mutter. My heart aches yet again as Aragorn kisses Boromir on the forehead. I dream for that, I have since I met him. As Aragorn stands up I see the pain across his face, Boromir has passed on from this life.

Gimli takes it upon himself to clean up Boromir as it is obvious Aragorn has no intentions of doing it. He is sat by the lakeside, looking out over the water. I swallow and walk over to him.

"Aragorn", I say softly, as he looks at me with mournful brown eyes, my throat catches. I slow my raging hormones and reach out to squeeze his shoulder, he gives me a weak smile and that's all I need, when I feel like giving up, he changes my mind.

He is my lifeline.
