Sonja McCalister was thinking about May Jolie again. She was wondering, "How can I possibly be thinking about my friend this much?" Sonja and May have been through everything together. Their mothers were in the same pre-natal class, gave birth at the same hospital. Sonja was born at 11:59 p.m. on May 31, and May was born at 12:01 on June 1. They were always in the same classes - until this year, their freshman year of high school. They got split up for every single class they had - even for their lunch hours. They only saw each other in the hallways, rushing to their next class. Even so, they still found time to hang out every day after school - after all, they lived right across the street from each other.

Sonja told May everything - when she got her first period, her first crush, everything. Except that Sonja made up the crushes so that May would think that she is "normal". Sonja wanted to come out, but was afraid to tell May that her first real crush was her best friend. What Sonja didn't know is that May was thinking the exact same thing - that her first real crush was, indeed Sonja, and didn't know if she should come out.

The first weekend in January, Sonja's family and May's family always go to a cabin on the lakeside of Chicago. The girls were 14 this cabin trip. They always say that the most recent cabin trip would always be the most memorable. For once, they would be right. The girls were watching a movie on Netflix when both of their families left the cabin for groceries. A big snowstorm hit, closing down all roads. At the end of their movie, they both got a text from their parents, saying that they were staying at a motel for the night because the roads were so bad. As soon as they got the texts, the power went out. The girls dug out some candles, and huddled under a blanket to keep warm. The started gossiping about the girls in their class, and talking about how horrible their teachers were, and talking about the guys they think are hot. After a while, they ran out of stuff to talk about.

After a long, awkward silence, Sonja said to May, "Can I tell you something? Its really personal."

May responded, "Sure. You can tell me anything."

Sonja took a deep breath. "May, we've been friends for as long as I can remember. I can rely on you for everything. I really like you. You've always been there for me, and if you weren't my friend, I wouldn't have been able to tell anyone this. May, my first real crush is you."

There was a long silence, then May said, "Sonja, the crazy thing is, you're my first real crush too. Do you want to-do you want to be my girlfriend?"

"Of course."

They kissed.

The next morning when their parents came home, they found the girls had fallen asleep cuddling with each other. Sonja's mom said, "I knew that they had a thing for each other. At least our girls are happy."

May's mom agreed.

That Spring when prom came around, they went to prom together. There had been guys that asked each of them out, but they had turned each of them down. At prom, they came out to the rest of the school. They were crowned the cutest couple.
