This was written for the Times Are Changing mini challenge on CCOAC. It's about Seaver leaving the BAU (as she will not be back next season). This is my thoughts on what might happen...
It fell on him to do the task. Not that he wanted to, not at all, but he did agree with Strauss that he was the best for the job. Today, it was Dave Rossi's job to tell their young probationary agent, Ashley Seaver, that she was being transferred.
Over the past months, he had formed a bond with the fresh agent, sent straight from the academy. They had become good friends and Rossi could honestly admit he would miss her. He knew that the others weren't as close with her as he was, which was a tiny regret. They should've gotten to know the amazing young woman.
"Ashley, can I have a word with you?" Dave asked, stopping by her desk. She looked up from her paperwork, a faint smile flitting across her face when she saw him.
"Sure." She stood and Rossi lead the way up to the conference room. He could feel the eyes of the other team members on his back as he walked. They could tell something was up.
"Take a seat." Dave pulled out a chair for her and waited for her to settle before sitting opposite her. He didn't say anything for a moment as he tried to find the right words. As she waited, her face slowly lost the content appearance it had been holding onto. She was beginning to sense something was wrong.
"What's wrong Rossi?" She asked, coldness seeping into her voice. He took a breath and exhaled long and tiredly.
"You're being transferred to the field office in L.A effective immediately. They just lost two members and need new agents ASAP. I'm so sorry." Acting on instinct, Dave reached forward to rest a hand on hers. She looked at a long moment, fighting off the sadness that his words had summoned.
Forcing it down, she struggled to bring a smile to her face. She succeeded, but the effect feel flat. "Don't worry about it. I understand." With that she stood and walked to the door. Pausing, she turned and met his gaze. "Thank you for everything Dave."
"No problem kid." She nodded and exited the conference room. He sat there a long time, watching as she made her way down into the bullpen. Morgan and Reid each walked up to her, Morgan giving her a small hug and Reid holding out a sympathetic hand. They watched as an agent arrived with boxes for her things and Garcia emerged from her office to say goodbye. Hotch and JJ both arrived to say farewell, before returning to their respective offices to continue their work.
By the time her things were packed, Dave had made his way to the rail overlooking the cubicals. Just as she was leaving the doors for the last time, she turned around, sent him a small wave and a smile, and vanished into the elevator.
I just wanted to something short and simple, so there you go. :)
