"C'mon Max, it's my turn to choose a song. We've had 'nuff from your cheesy
music. Besides, this is my truck," she said as she reached for some CDs, giving me that cocky smile.
"Okay, just keep your eyes on the road while you're at it," I said, resting my arm
on the car window. Chloe's truck wasn't exactly a luxurious ride, but we wouldn't change it for anything. It suits her. And it's also one of the few things we have left from Arcadia Bay.
I looked through the window and watched the sky. It was the golden hour, perfect time for a perfect shot. I took a deep breath, trying to clear my mind and enjoy the ride. I know it's silly, but I tried counting the pine trees as she drove, even if they all looked blurry because of how fast Chloe likes to drive.
"Found it! Now pay attention, Max. This is the type of music you wanna rock to
when we travel," she said, as she put the CD in the head unit, "I will now introduce you to real music. You can thank me later."
I listened to the song as the drums and distorted guitar sounds increased.
"Loud guitar noises, sounds like Chloe Price," I said, looking at her.
"You know me," she said. She went crazy with that song. It's not my music genre
but I knew the band. After spending so much time with her I can now recognize various rock bands. Looking at her so happy made me feel good, so I glanced to the window again and closed my eyes, trying to focus on the moment.
When the song ended she took the CD out and put it away.
"Now's the part where you say 'Wowser Chloe that song hella rocked, you have
truly an amazing taste in music' or… something like that," she said, putting the rest of the CDs under the seat. I laughed and looked down at my camera.
"I mean, I guess it was nice, not something I would liste—"
"Hella yes it was! I knew you would love it," she said giving me a gently, playful
punch in the arm. We laughed. The only thing we could hear now was the car engine and the breeze coming through. I like looking at Chloe when she drives. The way she grabs the steering wheel only with her right hand; and leaning on the car window, resting her head on her left hand. Worthy of a photograph.
I held my camera up and took a photo of her. As soon as it was printed she
looked at me, while I was shaking the photo.
"Just Max being Max," she said, teasing me, not in a bad way of course, "You'll
never get tired of taking photos of me, won't you?"
"I thought you were used to it by now," I said, laughing and reaching out for the
rest of the pictures I've been taking these past months we've been travelling. "Man, all the photos I've taken, all the places we've been…" I held some of my photographs in my hands, "It's crazy."
"Yeah, and they are all amazing. Luckily for you and me our hit-the-road-and-
shoot photo tour isn't over," she said, giving me that Chloe smirk.
"I just… I wish I could have taken more photos today," I said, still holding the
ones I had taken that morning.
"You will take more photos, just wait 'til you see where we're going," she said,
with so much confidence that made me feel reassured.
"And where is that?" I asked.
"I don't know it, yet. But it'll be awesome, and the photos you'll take there will be
awesome, trust me."
"Is that so?" I said, laughing quietly. She glanced at me and smiled back.
"Hella yes. The roads are long and lives are short," she said, reaching for my
indie folk mixtape, "We better make the most out of it."
Author Notes
This was just a small fanfic that I wrote for a contest. As you can tell, it is set months after the Sacrifice Arcadia Bay ending. Not sure if I am going to write more fics due to my ever busy shedule, but who knows...
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it,
Erika
