Chapter 1: The fall of the tower.

Dark tower/throne room/Friday afternoon.

Gnarl's gaze swept across the remains of what was once the throne room of the dark tower. The supports on either side of the walkway had fallen or displayed large cracks. The center of the stone floor was littered with scorch marks, indicating where the red carpet burned to ashes. At one end of the room was a small round pool of water, at the other end a broken throne stripped of its decoration. The rest of the floor was covered with rubble and small rocks that had fallen from the ceiling. After its destruction the tower had fallen even further into decay. Yet even with all that the most devastating factor was the loss of all the master's possessions. All of the master's treasure, GONE! All of the artifacts, GONE! All the statues, the decorations, the trophy's, ALL GONE!

Anyone seeing the sight would have surely despaired, but there was still hope. Because in the middle of the desolate room stood a simple 1x3 wooden table. Around the table rested 6 people, 5 of which were candidates to become the new overlord. The sixth person, seated at the short end of the table with her back towards the pool was Aria. The black sorceress and most trusted advisor of the previous overlord. Two of the candidates sat on her right side at one of the long sides of the table. While the other three were seated on the opposite side.

Gnarl's eyes teemed with sorrow as he recalled the circumstances that led to their current predicament.

*Collective flashback of both Gnarl and Aria*

Gnarl looked down over the tower balcony as he watched his blue, green and red colored kin leaving the dark domain in search of a new home. When the Overlord had died of his illness several days ago they were left without an overlord. And without a master to serve the minions wouldn't survive. Gnarl knew this very well. He had seen it happen many times before, each time an overlord died the three clans would leave to await the day the browns would come for them with a new overlord to follow. He had experienced it many times, but it was always hard to watch them leave. Only the browns would remain behind.

Each of the three minion clans took with them their respective hive. The reds, greens and blues all flowed out on the road only stopping a moment next to the catacomb in which their master's body was buried.

As they passed the tomb each minion let out a short sniff or a sad grunt. Some batted away a tear from underneath an eye. "Traitors!" a voice spat between clenched teeth, "…all of them!"

Gnarl turned around and spotted a girl dressed in a long black dress without sleeves and a long dagger or short sword strapped to her waist.

The girl had long smooth black hair and black eyes, her skin as white as snow and a slender curved figure. Her name was Aria, 15 years of age. Although young she was without a doubt one of the most beautiful women in the world.

Gnarl looked at her as she watched the minions leave the tower and as her hands balled into fists and she clenched her teeth.

"It's not that simple, miss Aria." Gnarl voiced. "Without the master here they will wither and die, it is up to us to find the new overlord so they can return home again."

Aria crossed her arms and glared at the minion master. "The tower doesn't need a new master! Lord Pax is the only overlord and no one can replace him!" she shouted and stomped away from the balcony moving around the pool and up the stairs. Tears running down her face.

'poor girl.' Gnarl thought.

Aria had dashed up the stairs to the private quarters, making her way to her room and let herself fall on top of her bed. Her room was located directly opposite the overlord's chambers. she had admired master Pax to the point of obsession. She truly believed that she loved him with all of her black heart. But he recognized her feelings as nothing more than a silly little crush. He never acknowledged her feelings for him and even rejected her more than once. He refused to perceive her like a woman. He treated her like a daughter instead. Everything she had ever wanted he had given her, everything, except for his love.

She had once crawled into his bed, naked, hoping he'd come to see her for the woman she was. It hadn't worked, he had grown angry with her and had thrown her out of his room leaving her naked and with a broken heart to drown in her tears on the hallway floor. A red handprint on her left cheek where he had struck her.

Lying on her bed, grieving for the loss of the one she loved, she fell asleep. Hours later she was disturbed from her sleep by the muffled sounds of screaming minions in the distance. Still confused from just waking up she looked around. There was no one else here beside her. 'What is going on? Why are they making all that racket?' Aria thought before she was snapped out of her stupor by cries of a dying minion.

'Intruders?! We're under attack?! Of course these cowards would strike while the overlord lay dead in his grave unable to oppose them!' Aria scoffed. It sounded like a small group had invaded and was now killing the minions and raiding the tower. She quickly got up from her bed, grabbed her dagger and ran out into the hall.

It was empty.

She looked to her left and suddenly two minions came running from around the corner that led back to the throne room. They were running all the while screaming.

"Run!"

"Retreat!"

"Protect master's shiny things!"

Then the sound of an arrow being loosed.

*thwang!*

Aria watched as the arrow embedded itself into the brown's back and sent him flying a few feet before falling limp to the floor.

"Scrabs!" The other minion called. "Scrabs is dying. Muffles must grab master's shiny thingies and leave Scrabs behind. Go!" The minion called Scrabs uttered at his fellow brown all the while struggling to breath. Muffles got up and started running towards the other end of the hallway from which Aria stood, towards master Pax's treasury room.

"Nice shooting Fellon, for an elf that is!" a rough voice sounded around the corner where the arrow came from.

"OH I'm sorry, but I didn't see YOU doing anything, MASTER dwarf! Scared of a couple of brown demons Rollo?" a softer but more arrogant voice sounded. This voice definitely came from an elf, who apparently went by the name Fellon.

The other voice had been from a dwarf, apparently called Rollo.

"WHAT DID YOU SAY?! HOW DARE YOU! WHO DO YOU THINK WAS THE ONE THAT CLEARED THE PATH FOR EVERYONE TO MOVE INSIDE THE TOWER?! WHO WAS THE ONE THAT BLEW OPEN THE GATES AND THAT BUNCH OF MINIONS?!" Rollo shouted.

Aria was about to rush over so she could kick them out of her master's tower when out of the treasury came a man dressed in black clothes with two curved swords made with silver handles, one in his left hand and the other on his left hip. Underneath his right arm was a large silver urn which was filled to the brim with gold coins. On his head he wore a turban and most of his face was covered as well, only his eyes were visible.

'A ruborian warrior!' Aria thought recognizing the attire.

When the warrior exited he heard his two fellow raiders bickering and yelled at them. "Enough! Both of you! There are still plenty of the overlord's servants that need to be dealt with. So set your grudges aside for now and help me relieve this room of its gold!"

At that time Muffles bumped into the ruborian warrior. "oompf!" The man and the urn fell to the floor. Gold coins clattered against the stone floor.

"Fahir?! Are you okay what is happening over there?" Fellon asked as the sounds of his footsteps and those of the dwarf could be heard by Aria. The two were making their way towards the ruborian.

"Apparently you missed one!" Fahir shouted in their direction as he got up and thrust his sword into Muffles who was still trying to get to his feet.

"Argh!" the brown yelled with his dying breath and fell back to the stone floor.

Now Fahir stood solid again he noticed Aria standing at the other side of the hallway. Her face contorted in anger she stomped towards him. 'How dare these people come into her master's tower and do as they please. I'll show them' she thought.

Just as she neared the middle of the hallway a dwarf with a large two handed Warhammer and belt with grenades and an elf with a bow and two elven blades across his back stepped right into the middle between her and Fahir. The three heroes looked upon her with surprise and then readied their weapons. Fahir let his urn fall once more so he could draw his second blade while Rollo and Fellon jumped away from her and stood on either side of Fahir.

"I was wondering where you'd be…" Fellon said "…Aria the black sorceress." He spat. An evil grin plastered Aria's face. She was known far and wide for her magic. She had studied all kinds of magic her entire life and people feared her powers. Only one other was known to be able to rival her powers.

She menacingly took a few steps forward when another person joined them inside the hallway. However this man didn't come out of the treasury room. No! This man exited out of master Pax's private chambers behind Aria. Aria turned around at the sound of the man's footsteps and glanced up and down his figure.

Around the man's neck hung several golden chains. Three golden crowns adorned his head, all stacked upon one another. In his right hand he held a bottle of lord Pax's personal stash of liquor and a small wooden chest under left arm, probably filled with gold. Strapped to his back was a lute and tucked in his belt was a simple woodcutters axe. How could she not have noticed these men passing through the halls? They passed right by her own chambers for god's sake.

The man took a large swig of the bottle as he exited into the hallway. When he brought the bottle down from his lips he stopped as he noticed a young woman standing before him. He blinked a couple times to make sure it wasn't the alcohol playing tricks on him. He checked the bottle to confirm its contents. "Surely I haven't had that much to drink just yet? What's this stuff made of?" He thought out loud. It was then that he noticed his fellow companions further down the hall.

"Why are we all just standing here? Is something wrong?" the man asked them.

"We are standing here because of her!" Rollo said as he pointed one of his fingers towards Aria. Relieved that he wasn't imagining the woman in front of him or having some kind of illusion, a big smile crept across his face. He failed to notice that his comrades were highly on guard.

"Friends! Don't you worry about a thing! I'll handle this!" He exclaimed with a tone that sounded like he was sacrificing his life to go slay an dragon. The three heroes looked at him in disbelief and watched as he put the chest with gold down and marched over towards Aria.

"Mikael, no wait!" Fellon tried to warn him but he didn't pay attention. He marched over to Aria, who was stunned by the man's stupidity. The man hadn't even drawn his axe and simply confronted her head on.

Thinking he might have something planned she took a step backwards. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you." Mikael said causing her eyes to widen in surprise. "we're here to stop the evil deeds of the vile overlord. I can't imagine what it must have been like for you to be trapped in this dark tower with a brute like that. But you're a slave no more, we've come to free you!" he exclaimed. His smile becoming more friendly when he noticed the girl relax as he spoke.

'This idiot doesn't know who I am! He honestly thinks lord Pax abducted me and forced me into slavery and servitude.' Aria thought. 'This guy isn't a threat to me, he's just a big idiot' she couldn't help herself but smile at the stupidity of the man before her. But then her smile disappeared as she saw his look change from a friendly smile to a lustful grin and she could feel him undressing her with his eyes as he came closer.

As Mikael approached the young woman he could see the curves forming her slender body, the beauty of her face. He couldn't help himself but picture her naked and thought that if he saved her she would probably throw herself at him in gratitude and admiration. He was now right in front of her and he reached out with his hand to grab her wrist to guide her but then he felt her place a finger on the middle of his chest.

Aria placed her index finger on the middle of the man's chest and whispered a short incantation. The tip of her finger became covered in flames and as Mikael's chest caught fire he started screaming and stepped away from Aria as he tried to put out the flames by slapping the fires out with his hands. Instead of putting the flames out they kept spreading and now both his hands were on fire as well.

Aria and the three heroes watched Mikael scream as he burned to death.

30 seconds.

30 seconds is how long it took for him to stop screaming, fall down to the floor and turn into nothing but a heap of ashes into the shape of a human.

Aria turned around and observed the three others who were still looking at the ashes behind her. When after another second or two they looked up from the remains and stared back into Aria's madness filled eyes. All three swallowed loudly and raised their weapons once more, but none dared approach her.

Aria had enough of these fools they would pay for their crimes. Aria started chanting again this time a longer incantation. When she finished nothing seemed to happen for a moment but then the statues that were posted all throughout the hallway started to come to life and stepped down from their stands. Fellon quickly nocked an arrow on his bow and loosed it only to have it bounce off of the statue doing no damage what so ever. Fahir was having the same problem as his swords had no effect either. Rollo however seemed to have more success with his grenades but he realized he didn't have enough of them to blow up all of them.

Slowly with grinding sounds the statues marched on to the three now surrounded men. Aria grinned evilly her eyes twinkling expectantly to see blood but instead a blue and white flash erupted into the hallway blinding all. When Aria looked up again she saw her statues laying useless on the floor returned to nothing more than carved stone.

Standing in between the three heroes were three new people. Two Halflings who almost looked exactly the same. All Halflings look the same but these two even more so. The third person was a young woman clearly older than Aria herself. The woman had white hair bright blue eyes and a white dress. She was in every way Aria's opposite, except for her breasts, which were big but not too big. "Aurora!" Aria growled. "I should have known you were behind this! Only a big tits bimbo like yourself would think up such a stupid plan as to attack the overlord tower!"

"Big tits bimbo?!" Aurora shouted in disbelief. "I have more knowledge of magic than you ever will, minion whore!" Aurora yelled back.

"Whore?! I have retained my virginity, unlike you! Or did you forget what happened last time you challenged my master?" Aria spat back at her. The look on Aria's face spoke of victory and celebration. She would bask in the girls pain. Aurora's eyes widened with torture as she remembered her first meeting with the overlord.

It was here in her master's tower that she had fought alongside him, a wizard who had made it his life's goal to stand in Pax's way and to thwart his every plan for domination. While her master battle the overlord she had fought against Aria, neither of the girls had been able to defeat the other. But then her master had fallen to lord Pax, alive but unable to fight. It was then that lord Pax marched towards her and drained her of her magical energy. After that he continued to strip her and rape her in front of her master.

Pax had felt no pleasure in doing so, he had merely raped her to cause as much pain to the wizard as possible, knowing that Aurora was like a daughter to the old man. Just like Aria was to him.

Aurora took a deep breath as she tried to keep her tears from falling down her cheeks. She then spoke, her chin raised high. "It is true that your master left me violated and broken. But with time my wounds healed and I picked up the pieces of my mind. And I swore that I would take from that man everything he has. His power, his servants, his tower and the life of his daughter!"

Aria looked at Aurora, she had indeed regained her former strength. She was no longer that broken, sobbing creature they had left on the floor that night, all those years ago. If Aurora was indeed fueled by hatred for her and her master then she might actually be a threat to her. Aria knew how much strength could be born from hatred.

Aurora spoke "And now that the dark lord is dead, there is no one to stop me from doing so."

"H-how…? How do you know he's dead? Who told you?! TELL MEEEEEE!" Aria screamed.

"It was easy" Aurora said. she snapped her fingers and a little white bird came flying through the hallway and landed on her extended index finger. "This little birdy is one of my familiars. He's been keeping an eye on the dark lord and you for years now and you've never noticed." Aurora said while gentle petting the little bird's chest. "It's too bad you couldn't make the man you loved love you back. And what's more… he preferred ME over YOU. He chose to rape ME before making love to YOU." Aurora hissed.

Aria knew it was a lie, she knew the girl was just twisting the facts to get to her. Aria knew, but she didn't care. Those words hurt her more than she would ever admit and in a blind fit of rage she screamed long and hard, sending the elf, the dwarf, the ruborian and the two Halflings to their knees clenching their hands to their ears.

When the screaming stopped Aria sent all her magical energy to her hands. Flames surrounded her hands as she thrust them forward, sending a jet of red fire towards the white sorceress.

Aurora in her turn did the same except for the fact that she was throwing a whitish blue stream of ice and snow. The two spells connected with each other in the middle of the room. It was now a contest of magic versus magic.

As the men picked themselves up from the ground they watched in disbelief at what was happening before their very eyes. None of them had ever seen such a display of powerful magic in their entire lives. Even Fellon, elves were more attuned to magic but only the magic of nature, never true white or black magic like this.

The two sorceresses seemed equal as neither was able to gain any ground or push the other back. The streams of fire and ice just kept throwing themselves at each other for what seemed like hours but was only several seconds.

As her energy started to diminish, Aria's thoughts started to wander her mind, replaying all of her memories she had with her master. She was about to give up growing weaker with the moment. 'Death.' She thought. 'If I died here, would I be able to see him again?' As Aria's vision started to blur, the corners of her mouth formed into a grin at the thought of reuniting with him. But then a memory invaded her peaceful thoughts.

There her master stood in the middle of the battlefield, corpses everywhere. Men, elves, dwarves and minions alike. The overlord was bleeding heavily many wounds covered his body. His armor lay on the ground ripped and twisted. His breathing was fast and irregular, keeping himself upright with his axe his left hand removed his helmet which he threw to the blood covered grass.

He was surrounded by at least fifty soldiers, all his minions were dead, Aria was fighting further up the hill and wouldn't be able to reach him in time. 'is this the end?' he thought, looking up at the sky. The soldiers saw a chance and they took it. They flew forward ready to strike down the scourge of their existence.

'No!' He thought. "I WILL NOT BE TAKEN SO EASILY! IF DEATH WANTS TO MAKE ME ITS ENEMY THEN I WILL SLAY DEATH ITSELF! COME ON! GIVE ME YOUR BEST SHOT!" He yelled out, his voice making the earth shake and crumble. Dark clouds gathered above him and lightning struck down upon his body.

Everyone expected to see nothing more than a burnt corpse but when the smoke cleared overlord Pax stood straight lighting racing over his muscles. He slammed his fist to the ground and the lighting flowed over the sand to the soldiers surrounding him. All died, and those that didn't fled. They had won the battle that day and Aria had witnessed a miracle.

Those words he had screamed towards the heavens now roared through Aria's mind and filled her with reinvigorated effort. She poured more of her magical energy into her flames and started pushing Aurora back.

As the two Halflings saw that their strongest ally was being overpowered they looked at one another and nodded. The two each had a Halfling sword in one hand and in the other the end of an iron chain which connected them to each other. They rushed forward underneath the ice and flames, their height being advantageous in this situation.

Aria couldn't see the two Halflings because they hid underneath her own stream of magical fire. Then they split up, the chain hit her stomach and the two ran circles around her. Wrapping and tying her up in the chain. Every time they met one another behind her back and in front of her one of the two would jump up, put his foot onto his twin brother's head and jump down again. They did this several times and now that she was all tied up the twins tripped her and she fell to the floor. They jumped on top of her so they could stab their Halfling swords into her skin. But she set herself on fire and they twisted in the air to redirect their landing.

Aria was kicking and screaming in rage and desperation, her master would never forgive her if she would surrender her life without a fight. The chain started glowing red and slowly melting away. The other heroes wanted to go and charge seeing this as their chance but were stopped when they heard the sound of clawed feet running up the stairs.

The minions had regrouped and were now attacking again. "Stop! We're done here!" Aurora said. "Billy! Bobby! Thanks for the help but we've got to go!" The two Halflings looked at Aurora like she was crazy here was their chance to kill the last of the servants of darkness and she wanted to leave? As if she had read their thoughts she said "We will have another chance, but now we must go! Without the overlord she is no threat to us!"

The two Halflings ran back to the white sorceress leaving Aria burning and in chains. Aurora ran into the treasury room. Once they were all there she chanted an incantation and disappeared together with the others and all the gold, silver and jewels inside of the room.

A moment later a hidden passage way opened in the wall and Gnarl stepped out together with some brown minions. "I saw everything. Those so called heroes won't get away with this I can promise you that. After all… evil will always find a way." Aria had heard Gnarl say and then she had fainted from expending all of her energy.

"We have much work to do. Over the next couple of years we must secretly gather life-force to replenish our ranks. And we must find our new overlord."
