Kono vaguely felt someone pushing at her shoulder. Reluctant to leave the world she'd been happily sleeping in, she nevertheless forced herself to open her eyes, the task seeming to use up each and every bit of energy she had.
Eyes cracking open, and staying open, she told herself, she found her four year old bouncing on the balls of her feet in excitement. "Finally!" she signed.
She struggled to get her own hands free to respond, settling instead for a raised eyebrow in question. "Mm?"
Jolie rolled her eyes in a very Danny-like manner. "It's breakfast time."
As her daughter scrambled up on the bed to fluff up pillows and the like, Kono rolled onto her back, placed her palms on the mattress, braced herself and heaved upright.
She smiled genuinely when Jolie added an extra pillow for her and tugged the blankets up to cover swollen abdomen, patting it with great familiarity.
Her very pregnant form in a position that offered some degree of comfort, she yawned. Her hand was too late getting there to cover it.
Turning to the door with tired eyes, she saw Steve standing there, a tray in his hand. She saw his concerned face and smiled.
Their private moment ended when Jolie spotted her father and gestured madly for him to come to the bed and place the tray there.
Steve complied and Kono smiled at the rather slapdash efforts of her daughter to get everything on the tray, but in her eyes, nothing looked better.
Grinning widely, Jolie turned to her mother as Steve took a seat, keeping a careful hand on the tray, their daughter in her excitement likely to send it flying.
"Happy Mother's Day!"
Kono had tears in her eyes as she tugged her daughter to her. "Thank you sweetheart."
There was a kick at her distended belly too and Jolie pulled back gleefully. "Baby says it too!"
As the excited girl then turned to "serving" up breakfast, Steve leaned over and pressed his lips to Kono's. "Happy Mother's Day."
Whatever might have followed was interrupted by an ominous noise before them.
Uh oh.
Finito.
