Two Reasons Roland Is A T-800, and One Reason He Isn't

It starts as a joke. Jeb likes to make lists, after all, and this one at least makes him laugh.

1. His accent.

Because the first time Jeb hears Roland trying out his accent for his role as "the mad scientist", he can't stop laughing for a good two minutes.

"What?" Roland says, sounding faintly offended.

Jeb collects himself and tries to explain, eventually managing to say, "You sound like -- like the Governator." He bursts into laughter again.

Roland keeps a straight face for a second before his eyebrows arch in disbelief and he asks, "Do I really?"

"Really," Jeb says, and that's the first time he makes Roland laugh until he cries.

2. His eyes.

This is one Jeb doesn't mention to Roland, but it's on the list regardless.

Because Val has brown eyes, and Connie's were green, and so Roland is the only person Jeb's ever counted close to his heart who has blue eyes -- light blue, not dark or tinted with grey. And it's the color of his eyes -- pure, clear blue -- that makes Jeb absently compare them to lasers or LEDs.

This makes him laugh quietly to himself for a while. There's a reason he wasn't a poet.

But then again, Jeb realizes at some point -- this is the way he justifies himself. The way he proves to himself that he's right, because:

1. Jeb loves him. And he loves Jeb.
